What IS EdCamp?

The edcamp experience is popping up all over the globe and educators are finding the learning to be just in time and right on target to meet the their professional learning needs. "The edcamp model provides educators with a sustainable model for learning, growing, connecting, and sharing. Everyone's expertise is honored, and specific, concrete strategies are exchanged. When professional development is created 'for teachers by teachers,' everyone wins," explains Kristin Swanson. Click here to read an article about edcamps.

District Tech EAs in the Spotlight!

The Tech EAs participated in the first Tech EA Edcamp, last Friday. The Tech EAs used Padlet to list the ideas they wanted to learn more about. Then someone who was comfortable sharing about that topic jumped up and talked/trained. Topics covered included Kahoot, features of Vision, Padlet, SumDog, as well as ideas for collaborating with teachers. It was a great time of sharing and learning, capitalizing on the diverse talents of this dedicated group of educators.

Other spotlights this week include:

Science Teachers, North Ridge EL

Middle & High School CTE Teachers

Debra Szosteck, Walker Creek EL

Elementary GT Teacher

Hernan Oropeza, Academy at West Birdville EL

Beth Muirheid, Smithfield MS

Looking for the best MEME

As you know the district experienced a technology "bug" on Friday that changed the first name of all users to Null. Fortunately, the vendor was able to correct the problem before the days end and has apologized for any inconvenience caused to BISD users.

The Technology Department is holding a contest for the best MEME illustrating the Null events from Friday. The winner will receive a $30 Starbucks gift card, courtesy of the vendor.

All entries must be submitted to Null@birdvilleschools.net by 9 AM on Friday, October 16, 2015. Good luck to all who wish to participate!
