Lead Learner Highlights
To our 8th grade families who have no more children to share with us, best wishes as you continue to partner with schools for the success of our children.
To our returning 6th and 7th grade families, we look forward to next year. My one request is for you to get involved with our PTO as they strive to create and support our efforts to create engaging experiences for students and families. Our full success depends on your involvement. Reach out to Cheri Bramble (bramble29@hotmail.com) for ways she could use your help and skill set.
We will send a newsletter with "need to know" summer information (i.e., supply lists) at the start of next week.
Please read below for picture highlights, summer reading information and more.
Have an AMAZING Summer!

Staffing Changes Alert!
Some of our teachers and staff will not be returning to King Philip Middle school in the fall.
Please join me in congratulating the following staff members who will be retiring at the end of the year.
Mrs. Susanne Torcasio, our Lead Secretary, my secretary, will retire this summer after 22 1/2 years of working with teachers, families, and students. She has been an integral part of our school community and has dedicated herself to making sure that KP shines at every turn. I will miss her greatly.
Our librarian, Mrs. Denise deMello has been an instrumental part of our school community for twelve years. Over the course of her time at KP, Mrs. deMello has championed literacy and research skills introduced our community to the maker movement and created a space that provides a 21st Century environment for our students. She has been an inspiration to our community.
Mrs. Fran Hechenbleikner, our office paraprofessional, will also be retiring at the end of the year. She has been at King Philip for twenty-two years welcoming families and supporting students and staff members. Her kind heart and KP spirit have been at the heart of our community.
Mr. Mark Perelli, one of our day custodians, will be retiring after 17 plus years of supporting our school community. Mr. Perelli has supported the maintenance of our building. His know-how and presence will be greatly missed.
Other teachers and staff members will be leaving KP to go to Hall High School.
Mrs. Sarah Issacs who has served as a 6th and 7th grade ELA teacher will be the new assistant principal at Hall High School. Joining her at Hall to support the Hall Community will be Mrs. Nicole Lacourciere (TLC teacher), Ms. Susan Rodney (7th grade special education teacher) and Mrs. Karen Abrahamsen (TLC paraprofessional).
Finally, we have a few staff members who will leave KP for other opportunities. Ms. Deanna Johnson will join Bristow Middle School as their Lead Secretary. Mrs. Stephanie Kozicki, 8th-grade world language teacher, has decided to stay home with her daughter. Ms. Ray Ducheine, a TLC teaching assistant, will be joining the staff at a private school in Massachusetts as a science teacher next fall.
We are grateful for impact Mrs. deMello, Mrs. Torcasio, Mrs. Hechenbleikner, Mr. Perelli, Mrs. Issacs, Mrs. Lacourciere, Ms.Rodney, Mrs. Abrahamsen, Mrs. Kozicki, and Ms. Ducheine have made on the KP Community and wish them well.

"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
