Dear Pirate families,
Did you know that we have a thriving partnership to make our community stronger? Many of our students participate in our leadership group with the Anti-Defamation League’s No Place for Hate initiative. This is ongoing work to keep our community strong! As outlined in their mission, this partnership “provides schools and communities with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive climate. No Place for Hate schools receive their designation by:
Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect is the goal, and all students can thrive.
Empowering students, faculty, administration and family members to take a stand against hate and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
Engaging schools and communities in at least three anti-bias activities per year, which ADL helps to develop.
Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong.”
Today, as part of this initiative, all students were asked to participate in signing our LMS Resolution of Respect (see below). This is a pact, designed with student voice, which we all stand by to ensure the most respectful and inclusive community we can all be a part of. Ask your Pirates about No Place for Hate and what the Resolution of Respect shall mean for them. As an important aside, our student leaders worked with the Louisville City Council a couple years back to adopt similar resolution language citywide as we are all in this together!
Finally, many in our community are aware of a tragic loss of one of our LMS parents and an active community member this week. In response to this, the benevolence and support within Louisville has been evident, as always. For those of you who wish to contribute, a GoFundMe page is available at this link to support the Clark family, all of whom continue to be in our thoughts.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership! Please let us know if there is anything you or your student may need.
Sincerely,
Chris Meyer,
Principal

Dear Wonderful LMS Parents –
As the holidays approach, we would love to show our LMS teachers and staff how much we appreciate them and all they do for our students. Last year, the PTO organized pies being donated by parents and distributed them to the teachers and staff right before the Thanksgiving break. This was a big hit and we heard they loved having this special treat to enjoy during break. So, we’re doing it again!
Please help us make this a success by signing up to donate a pie via the Help At School signup.
Pies can be homemade or store bought and can be any variety. Cash donations/Venmo are also welcome and the PTO will use them to purchase pies. Please note that some teachers have food allergies or restrictions so we’ve identified these specific needs on the sign up also.
Pies should be dropped off to the school on Friday morning, November 18th between 7:45am and 9:45am and will be distributed to the teachers that afternoon. Please be sure to label your pie with the flavor/type (e.g. Cherry, Apple, Pumpkin, Gluten Free, etc.) If you are unable to drop it off on Friday morning, please contact the main office to arrange a time to drop it off on Thursday.
If you have any questions, you can contact the Holiday Staff Appreciation coordinators, Shannon Thackray (shannon.thackray@gmail.com) and Emily Reis (emilyreis@hotmail.com).
Thank you for helping show our teachers and staff your appreciation and making their holidays special!
