Key Communicators
Personal contact is one of the most effective communication methods when building support for our schools and district. With this in mind, we need three parents to represent Carlisle Elementary as members of the 2016-2017 Plano Independent School District Key Communicators group.
What Do Key Communicators Do?
- Attend three evening meetings with the superintendent or other key staff to learn about programs, issues, initiatives and accomplishments. This year’s dates are: Tuesday, October 11; Thursday, February 2; and the final date is Tuesday, April 11.
- Share information from the meetings with other parents and school staff.
- Communicate district news and initiatives, which will vary from year to year, but could involve election information, Education Foundation programs, legislative issues and district planning.
- Receive occasional mailings from the district.
- Facilitate balanced and factual communications.
If you are interested in representing Carlisle Elementary as a Key Communicator, please email jana.sandall@pisd.edu or call 469-752-0611.
Farm-O-Ree
September 11 Recruitment for Youth Organizations
In an effort to support low-cost family activities or programs, the district is participating in distributing information about a “Farm-o-ree” event – recruitment for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts Circle Ten Council and the YMCA – to be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, at the Heritage Farmstead Museum, 1900 W. 15th Street in Plano.
Friendly Reminders
- Lost and Found: The single most important thing you can do to prevent loss of any item is to write your child’s name on it or in it.
- Students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 each morning. Thank you for starting your child’s day in a positive way by being on time. Three tardies are equivalent to an absence. Please plan ahead on rainy days as students are still expected to be on time. Carpool lines are shortest before 7:30 a.m.
- If you need to change the way your child goes home after school, please contact the office before 2:00 p.m. so that we can get a message to your child in a timely manner.
- Free and Reduced Meal Applications can be found at https://fans.pisd.edu/fma. It does not require a login and is available in English and Spanish. There is a Help button to help along the way.
- We would love for you to volunteer at Carlisle. Please go to www.pisd.edu and click on “Volunteer Applications” and follow the instructions provided on that page. If you were a volunteer last year, you must renew your application. All current background checks were purged on July 1st. Remember, you will not be able to volunteer in your child’s class or attend fieldtrips until this process is complete.

Dietary Restrictions for Students
As part of your child’s health profile we gather information about personal and religious dietary restrictions. We do share that information with the cafeteria manager. We respect those preferences and ask that you bear with us as we update that information. It is helpful for all parents to clarify dietary restrictions in the parent portal. If the selections are not as specific as you need, please make a note in the dietary section. For example, if you note that your child eats a vegetarian diet it is helpful if we know whether or not dairy products, eggs or seafood are permitted. In addition, since dairy and eggs are sometimes ingredients in birthday treats such as cupcakes, it is important for the teacher to know whether or not your child is permitted to eat those items. Parents are always welcome to send individual snack items from home that can be enjoyed by their student on these occasions.
Managing Serious Medical Conditions at School
Does your child have Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis), Seizure Disorder, or Asthma?
· We can provide the safest environment for your child at school if we have the medications that are needed to respond to your child’s symptoms as well as instructions from your child’s physician (Action Plan).
· All of the forms you need as well as additional information for managing these health concerns at school can be found here: http://www.pisd.edu/parents/health/checklist.shtml
· Be sure that information about your child’s health conditions are entered into the Parent Portal or call or e-mail Miss Grace at 469-752-0609 / Judith.grace@pisd.edu to update the information.
Food Allergies at School
Please remind your child to not share their food with their friends at snack or lunch. We have many children with serious food allergies. We also ask parents to check with the teacher in advance of sending birthday treats to school. You might consider non-food birthday treats for your child to share.
