The Lightning Rod
Ben Franklin's Monthly Newsletter - July 2014 Edition
Note From the Principal:
We are very excited to introduce the new format of the Lightning Rod! You will be able to browse articles by pictures and small icons. Our hope is that you will be able to stay on top of news and events at Ben Franklin in a much cleaner and more user-friendly format!
We will be working hard throughout the summer, so if you need anything, or have any questions, feel free to call or stop by.
Sincerely,
Chris Turnbull
The Summer Read Aloud Series is Underway!
On Monday, July 7, 2014, Mr. Turnbull kicked off the Summer Read Aloud Series using 'anymeeting.com.' The interactive read aloud was broadcast from his home at 7 pm. Based upon an evaluation of the event and feedback from participants, we will determine the frequency, timing and content of future read alouds.
Summer Programs are Up and Running at BF!
Summer is a busy time for Ben Franklin School. Starting Monday, July 7, every single room at BF is being used for the ESY and Summer Destinations programs. Teachers from across the district are hard at work helping students grow and learn.
Have You Checked out the Summer Math and Reading Sites?
Click below for the Ben Franklin Summer Math and Reading Sites. They are interactive and tons of fun. The sites are a great way to keep students engaged in thinking and learning all summer long; giving them an advantage come September!
New Walkway!
Ben Franklin has a new walking path from the back door of the school to the playground! This will mean MUCH less dirt and mud in the building, easier access for wheelchairs and year-round access to the playground from the back door. Needless to say, we are very excited.
New Life in the BF SNAP Space
We have recently had a nest of bird eggs hatch in the birdhouse in the SNAP Space! The cute new baby birds will be excited to welcome students back in September.
Mrs. Muzi Represents BF in Taiwan!
Mrs. Muzi has flown to Taiwan with Eco-Schools, USA, part of the National Wildlife Federation, and the US EPA. Mrs. Muzi will be sharing Ben Franklin's experiences with it's partnership with Jian An Elementary School and will report out on work of the BF EPA. In addition, she will learn new ideas and connect with new friends.
