September 2022 Newsletter
School in-session: 8:00am - 3:00pm
AM Carpool: 7:30am - 8:00am
PM Carpool: 3:00pm - 3:30pm
Office Hours: 7:00am - 4:00pm
As a reminder, we strongly urge our families to arrive on time to school. Carpool ends at 8:00am, and classes begin promptly thereafter. Arriving late disrupts the classes, and students miss out on important academic time.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, there will be a no-entry window during our afternoon carpool. There will be no early pick-up or meeting requests from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. If you need to speak to a teacher or administrator, please call or email to set-up an appointment.
Please remember to have your permanent car rider tag or temporary green tag visible on your windshield during your entire drive through carpool. We must see an official tag issued by New Life Academy of Excellence. Otherwise, we will need to verify your identification before a student can be released to your car. For our students' safety, we will not release students through verbal car rider number identification, or through pictures of the tag. Thank you for your understanding!
In the event that your child is sick, please do not send them to school. Your child must be free from fever for 24 hours before they may return to school.
If your student needs to take medication at school, the parent/guardian will need to transport the medication to school, along with a clinic form to be kept at school.
Parents, please make sure your student arrives to school in dress code. Violations will be noted and communicated home. We are seeing violations mostly with the use of non-uniform outerwear (hoodies) and shoes.
As the USDA nationwide waiver has expired, school lunches will no longer be offered for free.
If you have not received a written letter (email or paper) from the New Life Academy of Excellence School Nutrition Department regarding Direct Certification for your household, we strongly encourage you to fill out a Free/Reduced Lunch application.
Please note that our school nutrition program operates independently from Gwinnett County Public Schools. Any communication regarding your child's lunch eligibility should come from New Life Academy of Excellence. If you have not received an eligibility status email or letter from New Life Academy of Excellence, you will need to apply through our school.
The online application is a quick and easy way to complete this process:
Paper applications may be returned to the school office.
Did you know? Even if your child does not plan to eat hot lunch at school, submitting a Free & Reduced Lunch applications helps our school!
Full Pay: $3.50
Meal Charge Policy
Students will be allowed up to two (2) meal charges before an alternative meal is served.
Please check MyPaymentsPlus to confirm that your student's account has been replenished for the new school year to avoid any charges on your account.
Students may always choose to bring a packed lunch to school.
Please do not send lunches that require heating.
We recommend using insulated lunch boxes/bags with ice packs, as we cannot provide refrigeration for student use.
Soda cans and glass containers are not permitted.
If your student has a dietary restriction, we will need a form on file each school year.
Please download the Dietary Restrictions form and instructions below.
Forms may be turned in to the front office
Our first Digital Learning Day will take place on Friday, September 16th.
All students will report virtually to their teachers. Students should not report to the school building for Digital Learning Days.
More information regarding assignments will be sent home from your teacher.
At New Life Academy of Excellence, a uniform policy is in place to maintain our goal of consistency.
Uniform items may be purchased through our preferred vendor:
Sandy Springs Plaza
6311 Roswell Road NE
Atlanta, GA 30328
Shop in-store or Order Online
New Life Academy of Excellence feels it is important for children to develop an understanding of appropriate dress and appearance to suit the occasion. The manner in which students wear their uniforms reflects pride in their school. To this end, students are required to wear the uniform and be neatly groomed.
The full Dress Code Policy can be found on our website
Our goal is to ensure that each child, family, and staff member arrive and depart from New Life Academy of Excellence safely. Please adhere to the following guidelines during your time in carpool.
New families: Permanent Car Rider tags will be sent home with your child in the coming weeks. Please continue to use your temporary tag until you receive your burgundy permanent tag.
Please follow the lead of the police officer tasked with controlling the flow of traffic.
Make sure that your child is alert, packed up, and ready to exit the vehicle.
Follow the carpool staff to be placed in the proper lane.
Please remain in your car at all times.
If possible, please allow your child to sit on the passenger side or be able to cross over to the passenger side. If this is not possible for your vehicle, let a staff member know that your child is on the driver's side (give us a wave!).
Once your lane has stopped and is ready to unload, PLACE YOUR VEHICLE IN PARK
If you are in lane TWO (lane closest to the fence), please wait until a staff member motions your child to be released. If lane ONE (lane closest to the school building) is driving it is UNSAFE for your child to be out of your vehicle.
In the event that your child has forgotten anything in your vehicle, please wave down a staff member or bring it to the front desk.
Once all students have exited the vehicles in your lane, please wait for a staff member to release your lane before moving.
Please do not drop off at the front of the building during carpool hours (7:30-8:00am). Once carpool has closed, please pull through the front of the building. Students entering through the front will be considered tardy.
- Please follow the lead of the police officer.
- Carpool line starting point: In order to prevent congestion, our starting point for carpool is the New Life Academy of Excellence Training Center located diagonally across from the school. Please follow the lead of the officer on duty.
- Make sure you have your burgundy car rider tag or the orange temporary tag visible to staff. If you do not have a tag, you will be directed to a staff member at the front office lane to show your ID and receive a temporary tag.
- Please remain in the lane to which you are directed. Switching lanes will delay carpool!
- Remain in your car at all times.
- Once your lane is at a complete stop, place your car in park.
- After your child is secured in your vehicle and your lane is released, you may exit the carpool lane.
- During afterschool bus/carpool dismissal hours (2:30-3:30pm), parents will not be allowed to enter the building. This is for the safety of our students, and we ask that you request an appointment to speak with your teacher. Thank you for your understanding!
CAR RIDER TAGS
Car rider tags are the form of identification for picking up students in carpool. It is crucial that you always have the correct car rider tag displayed from your rearview mirror or in a place that is visible to staff members in order to keep the line moving.
For the safety of our students, we will not accept pictures of car rider tags. Without a tag, you will need to have your ID ready for a staff member to verify.
New/replacement tags may be ordered here.
There will be specified dates on our school calendar when students may wear Spirit Wear T-shirts. These shirts may be worn with black or blue jean pants/shorts.
Purchase at school
Our School Wide Community Council is a school organization that supports the unifying of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners that help build up the school community.
We hope that you can find the time to become an active and involved member of our school community. Studies have shown that when parents get involved in their children’s education, grades go up, test scores increase, there are fewer discipline problems and children are more likely to succeed in their future academic endeavors. Parents are welcome to attend our SWCC meetings on the following upcoming dates, which can help with understanding the role of SWCC in supporting the school.
We have many events planned and volunteer opportunities to be filled!
