Appointment Based Special Education Testing- BLOCKS

If your child WAS or IS due to receive special education evaluations, please read below.

Please see the information listed below regarding the assessment process at the BLOCKS Preschool at Juniper Hill.

Please note that only one adult if needed can accompany the child in the building and given the current pandemic we ask that our school bathrooms be used in emergency situations only.

On the day of your child’s scheduled testing session, the school psychologist, special educator, or related service provider, will either (1) give you a phone number to call upon arrival or (2) greet you outside by the main door at the scheduled time. The following screening questions will need to be answered before you and your child can enter the school building.

Screening Questions;

  • Are you or your child feeling sick or exhibiting any of the following symptoms (fever, chills or shaking chills, Temperature of 100.0 F (37.7 C) or higher, loss of taste or smell, cough, shortness of breath or trouble breathing, headache, sore throat, fatigue or unusual tiredness with one other symptom, body pain or ache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, runny nose or congestion)?
  • Have you or your child been confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19?

  • Have you or your child potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19?

  • Have you or your child traveled/returned within the last 14 days from out of state to any states NOT on the approved travel list?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, the assessment must be rescheduled

Once the staff person has received answers to the screening questions:

  • The staff will tell you what door to drive and meet staff at if needed OR
  • The child will enter the front door with the staff member to administer the evaluation OR
  • If the child is having difficulty separating, then one adult and the child can proceed into the school for the testing session.

  • The adult accompanying the child, the child and the staff person will be required to wear a mask/ face covering that covers their nose and mouth for the duration of the testing session.

  • The only exception to this will be if your child has a medical condition preventing them from using a mask. If this is the case, please let the staff person know this ahead of the testing session.

  • Clear disposable face masks will be provided and used when necessary to ensure the validity of the assessment.

  • If the adult needs to accompany the child, there will be seating available for the adult near the testing area.

  • Prior to the testing session, care will be taken to ensure that any testing materials to be handled by your child (i.e. manipulatives, writing utensils, etc.) are properly cleaned and sanitized.

  • During the testing session:

    • your child and the staff person will be seated at a table/desk directly across from each other. For added safety and protection, a plexiglass shield will be placed in the middle of the table/desk.

  • During the testing session, your child will be permitted to take breaks as needed; however, your child will be required to remain in the testing area during this time. Mask/ face covering breaks will also be permitted at this time as long as 6 feet of distance is maintained between the child and the school staff person.
