Scituate School Dept. Reopening Plans

A team of Scituate educators, school nurses, principals, central office administrators, students, and parents worked on a daily basis to review the re-opening school guidelines produced by the RI Department of Education and Department of Health. The team met frequently and submitted our district plan to the RI Department of Education on June 17th. We are pleased to announce that Scituate's plan was commended for its thoroughness and emphasis on student and staff safety. While the plan includes many details of what school may look like, there are still MANY details to be finalized. The plan includes four possible scenarios including full in person, 50% in person, 25% in person and full distance learning. It is our understanding that the Governor's' office and the RIDOH will make an announcement on August 17th, letting us know which plan we will re-open to. We thank families and teachers for their patience and partnership as we continue to re-design school in what will be a less than perfect situation to say the least. We encourage families to review the plan and to attend a virtual "town hall" meeting on Thursday, August 6th at 6:30 PM to learn more. Lots more info coming soon!

As a parent myself, I understand how stressful this situation is for families. Please know that student and staff safety are at the forefront of every decision and flexibility will be needed by all. Please stay healthy and reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Michael Hassell,

2020-2021 Student Schedule

While we are still unsure what the opening of school may look like in the fall, our Director of Guidance, Christine Testoni, is in the process of finalizing a school schedule to represent an ideal world where we enter school under normal circumstances. In addition, our district school reopening task force will meet weekly through the summer to develop plans for reopening as we receive more guidelines from the state.

SHS school counselors spent some time last week meeting with students (virtually) with schedule conflicts and proposed options for potential solutions. We ask that you continue to be patient and proactive as we finish this process. We try our best to accommodate each student's scheduling need, however, scheduling conflicts can create some compromises within student schedules. Please contact your teenager's school counselor with any concerns. Students will have the first two weeks of school in Aug/Sept. to make any schedule changes.

Final student schedules will be available on Powerschool two weeks before the start of school.

  • As in the past, student schedules will be available to view and print on PowerSchool at 4:00 PM on August 24th. Students and families that may have lost their username and password or are new to Scituate High School should contact the school at 647-4120. We ask that parents and students remain patient with any schedule errors as our guidance staff is working hard to “clean up” any loose ends.

School Supplies

Scituate High School typically does not have an "official" student material list as we find that there are not many items that parents/students are expected to purchase. Considering that lockers will not be utilized this year due to CDC regulations and also considering that all students will be given a chromebook, we expect that required materials will be minimal. Students will receive a clearly outlined syllabus during the first week of school with any suggested materials.

Yearbooks and supplements are here!!

For people that ordered a yearbook, please know that the supplement is free. You can pick up them Tuesday, Aug. 4th between 9:00-11:00 AM in auditorium lobby. There are also extra yearbooks for sale if you did not purchase. They are $85 cash only.

From our School Nurse

According to RIGL 16-38-2 every person entering any public or private school must provide proof of immunization. It is important to keep up to date with your child’s immunizations. Don’t forget to obtain an updated copy for your personal records as well as for the school. Consult with your pediatrician’s office with any questions or concerns about their current protocols for office visits and make your appointments as soon as possible.

The RI Department of Health requires that all students entering the 12th grade provide documentation of the following:

  • 1 booster dose of meningitis vaccine - received on or after their 16th birthday.
  • Physical health examination completed after the students 16th birthday.
If you have not already submitted the above state requirements please do so by the first day of school.
