Conferences
As I've been thinking about last week's conferences, one that I attended really stands out. The two pictures posted above are directly related to that conference. I love it when we have celebratory conferences and not just the "kick in the pants" conferences that kids dread and often expect. This was an epic example. The mom was crying, the teacher was teary-eyed (I admit, I was as well.) Had the student been present, I have no doubt that she would have been beaming. It was absolutely awesome and the top picture exemplifies that. The student was awesome, but the awesomeness extended to the teacher and the parent as well. Their teamwork and dedication to supporting this child in her learning, both emotionally and academically made the difference. The belief that the student could do better was in evident in everything that was said. The turn around in this student was incredible. That's what the second picture exemplifies. If we tell a student they can do better and raise the bar, they will reach for it. They might not get over it, but they'll probably knock it down. If we believe in them, they will believe in themselves- and us.
And now, back to the first picture. Who's awesome? YOU'RE awesome!
