Principal's Report
Fred Rogers, of Mr. Rogers fame, once said "A love of learning has a lot to do with learning that we are loved." Our Oakview faculty and staff work to pour into our students' lives daily so that they all feel loved. This week we highlight our two school counselors during National School Counselors' Week. Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Rabren exemplify what it is to love our students and we are proud to have them in our building!
Valentine's Parties
Our school Valentine's parties will all be held on Friday, February 14th. Room coordinators will coordinate up to 4 volunteers for each class and any supplies needed. Be on the lookout for information to come home soon!
The faculty and staff here at the View truly appreciate the love that you show us each and every day! We are truly blessed to be a part of such a engaged and supportive community.

5th Grade Transition to Middle School
It is time for our 5th grade parents to start thinking about Middle School! I will be working closely with your children, their teachers and the middle school counselors to get your child registered and prepared for next year. Sixth grade students will be placed in English and Math classes according to their grades, SCREADY scores, and MAP scores. Students will pick which electives (related arts classes) that they want to take. I will send home more information about this. In the meantime, you may want to take your child to the curriculum night of their middle school. For schools not listed, you will need to go to that school's website and get that information. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Information on our main feeder schools are listed below:
- Beck Academy - Thursday, February 13 @ 5:30 in the Beck Academy Cafeteria
- Riverside Middle - Tuesday, February 18 @ 6:00 at Riverside Middle (Oakview student tour with Mrs. Taylor on February 21 at 10am)
- Mauldin Middle - Tuesday, February 11 @ 6:00 at Mauldin Middle (Student tour February 10 at 9:15am)

National School Counselors' Week!
School counselors' primary focus is providing academic, college/career, and social/emotional support to our students. Their goal is to provide support to students in each of these areas, equipping them with coping skills to deal with academic and life challenges and achieve an overall sense of wellness. They want to make sure students are able to be present and achieve success in their classrooms. Providing that support comes in various formats: individual counseling, group counseling, core curriculum classroom lessons, consultation with teachers and parents, and much more. Mrs. Rabren and Mrs. Taylor love getting to work with Oakview students, faculty, and parents!

School of Excellence Program: Speaking Up for Every Child
In our quest to grow family participation in advocacy and empower all families to speak up for every child, we are enlisting the principles of transformative family engagement. Transformative family engagement is a shared effort of families, schools, and community leaders to advance programs, practices and policies that empower every parent to make their child's potential a reality. The Four 'I's' of transformative family engagement outline how we can become more inclusive, individualized, integrated and impactful in our approach to family engagement. As we work on our video to increase knowledge about how our school operates, we are seeking perspectives from parents, teachers, and staff. As we develop the content for our meeting in April on how to press for success and how to increase your power to have a positive effect on your children's future, we are working with purpose for this meeting to be impactful and individualized to meet the unique needs of every family and child.
If you have not provided your feedback on the content of our video, please do so now. Your input is critical.

NEW 3rd Quarter IXL Challenges Issued!
The 3rd quarter Challenge sheets went out last week (3rd quarter Challenge sheets link). These 10 Math and 10 Language Arts skills spiral from the first two quarters and add on current skills being taught in the classroom. The 3rd quarter Challenge is due March 27th so students have plenty of time to work through each one. As your student completes the challenge, they turn in their sheet to the computer lab. Students are recognized each Thursday on the ONN news show by Dr. Reavis, receive a certificate, and choose a prize.
Did you know that students can access IXL from home? (Oakview's IXL link) Be sure to have them log in using their credentials so that they get credit for their practice time!
