Goood Bye, Deacon Clement ... Until We Meet Again
To say that St. Margaret Mary School and Parish have been blessed by having Father Clement interning here is an understatement. His beautiful smile and gentle, playful nature have endeared him to our students. During his time at SMM, he could be found playing 4-squares or soccer with the students at recess.
Deacon Clement was born and raised in the Archdiocese of Tororo in Uganda, Africa. He grew up Catholic and his father sent him to a minor seminary to get a “good, Catholic foundation.”
At that time, he had no intention of becoming a priest. While he was there for 6 years, he learned a lot about his faith. Those times also became part of his discernment process.
He received his Bachelor degree in Philosophy. While studying, he fell in love with philosophy. He said, “God called me even when I didn’t want to be.” After graduation, he was still trying to discern what he would do with his life. He received a call from his vocational director that his archbishop wanted him to come to New Orleans to study at the seminary. The Archdioceses of New Orleans and Tororo have a close relationship. Select young men, like Deacon Clement, receive scholarships to attend Notre Dame Seminary. Deacon Clement didn’t realize that his calling would be fulfilled when he came here. But now, he realizes all that God was doing for him all along.
Deacon Clement is moving back to Notre Dame Seminary this week to finish his studies. He will receive his Master’s Degree in Theology in May. He will then have a few weeks to prepare for his return to Uganda on June 15th. There he will be ordained in early July surrounded by friends and family. Deacon Clement’s mission will then be to shepherd the people of his community. He promised that he will come see us one more time before moving home.
Deacon Clement has made so many good friends while at SMM. He is especially grateful that he was able to get to know so many of the children. Deacon Clement, we are the grateful ones.
JUST A FEW FRIENDLY REMINDERS FROM ADMINISTRATION
1. Some parents have asked about scheduled holidays - there will be holidays! There will be no changes to the yearly calendar unless there is a mandated reason for a school closure.
2. For the safety of their classmates and teachers, please keep your children at home if they are running fever or are not feeling well. Please contact Coach Gay Knock immediately for COVID issues.
3. Please do not bring dogs with you in car line.
4. Please do not block the entrance to the staff parking lot in the morning. Teachers on duty need to get in the parking lot.
GROOMING & UNIFORM CHECK
We will have a mid-year uniform and grooming check on Monday, January 11 during homeroom. Please make sure that your children are in compliance with the dress and grooming code as found in our school handbook. This includes skirt lengths, haircuts, and outerwear. Thank you for your cooperation.
KUDOS TO PATRIOTISM ESSAY WINNERS
Congratulations to these SMM middle school students. They placed in the recent regional "Americanism Essay" contest sponsored by the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in the United States. St. Margaret Mary was well represented and received the majority of the regional awards. We are proud of you.

IMPORTANT - COVID QUARANTINE PROTOCOLS
It is important that all parents are aware of and follow these guidelines.
These are the CDC guidelines for quarantine periods. The LA Department of Health, the LA Department of Education, and the Archdiocese have adopted these guidelines.
FOR STUDENTS/TEACHERS QUARANTINING AT HOME WITH A COVID POSITIVE PERSON IN THE HOUSE:
1. There is a 10 day period in which the child or teacher may still be infected by the contagious person.
2. After the 10 days has expired, beginning on the 11th day, there is an additional quarantine period of either 7 or 10 days.
3. The student or teacher may be tested for COVID on the 6th or 7th day after the initial 10 days. If the test is negative, the exposed person may return to school on the 8th day with confirmation of the negative test and no symptoms. Documentation of the negative test must be provided to the school.
4. If the student or teacher elects not to be tested, he/she may return to school on the 11th day after the initial 10 days provided he/she has no symptoms.
FOR STUDENTS/TEACHERS QUARANTINING WITHOUT A COVID POSITIVE PERSON IN THE HOUSE:
1. The student or teacher may be tested for COVID on the 6th or 7th day after the initial contact with the positive person. If the test is negative, the exposed person may return to school on the 8th day with confirmation of the negative test and no symptoms. Documentation of the negative test must be provided to the school.
4. If the student or teacher elects not to be tested, he/she may return to school on the 11th day after contact if he/she has not experienced any symptoms.
In all cases where a student/teacher has been exposed to a person with a positive COVID test, the LDOH recommends that he/she receive a COVID test on the 6th day or later because it can take up to 10 days after exposure for symptoms to arise.
If a student or teacher tests positive OR comes in direct contact with a positive COVID person, please call Coach Gay Knock immediately to discuss your options.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
