How does the type of circuit affect a strand of Christmas lights with a burned out bulb?

Independent Variable = Circuit

Dependent Variable = Light

## Hypothesis 1

If 1 bulb bursts or is removed in a parallel circuit then the other bulbs still light up.

## Observations

1. since this is a parallel circuit then all the bulbs will light and the energy goes to every bulb through different paths.

2. All bulbs sent out a normal amount of light.

## Observations

1. When you took one bulb out then the rest still stayed lit.

2. None of the bulbs increased or decreased in brightness when you take a bulb out.

## Hypothesis 2

If the Christmas lights are arranged in a series circuit then when 1 bulb bursts the other bulbs will go out as well.

## Observations

1. All bulbs in the circuit are on but the energy travels in one direction in one path.

2. The bulbs are much dimmer than the bulbs in the parallel circuit.

## Observations

1. When you take out one bulb then all the rest go out.

2. The energy no longer flows at all.

## Final Conclusion

When Christmas lights are used in a parallel circuit they all light with a good amount of brightness and if you take one bulb out or a bulb bursts the others will stay on. And when Christmas lights are in a series circuit the lights are dim and if you take one bulb out the others go out as well. Therefore the Parallel circuit would be best for decoration with Christmas Lights.
