Upcoming Author Visit and All-School Read
Author Chris Crutcher will be here on Tuesday, October 22nd. Chris is the author of several teen books, and dedicated The Sledding Hill to former NCHS student Zach Clifton. Several freshmen Comm Arts classes will be reading Whale Talk this semester and will be attending his large presentation in the Auditorium in the morning. We will have a couple of other smaller presentations. If you are interested in having your class attend a session, contact Cathy Gottlieb or Mary Wilkerson. Please encourage your students to read any of Chris Crutcher's books. We have lots of copies in the LC that can be checked out.
Banned Books Week
We celebrated Banned Books Week September 23-28. This week is an important reminder that censorship and banning books not only prevents students from reading books, but also keeps some from being published in the first place. Celebrate your freedom to read by reading a frequently banned or challenged book!
It's National Hispanic Heritage Month!
National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 - October 15. Learn more about the influence of Hispanic culture in our country by checking out a book by an Hispanic author. Find additional classroom resources here: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/
New Books in the LC
This is just a small sample of our new books. Stop by and check one out today!
Spotlight on NoodleTools
NoodleTools is a web-based research service that helps students correctly cite sources in MLA and APA citation styles. Use NoodleTools throughout a research project to track sources, take notes, create outlines, collaborate with classmates, and format and print a bibliography. All NCHS students and staff automatically have a NoodleTools account. Log in using the 'Access via G Suite' link when prompted. Type in your D203 email and then click on 'Sign In with Google'. The feedback from students is that they really like using it. We'd be happy to come to your class to teach students how to use NoodleTools.
Take a Google Expedition in the LC
Consider a virtual field trip to a location that complements your curriculum. Sign up to bring your class to the Learning Commons (that's where our VR wi-fi is) and let's plan an activity! Download the Google Expeditions app on your own phone to preview what's currently available. Our VR Central site has more information. Questions? Contact John Hayward.
