Students Begin STAR Math and Literacy Assessment

This week students in grades 9 and 10 took the fall assessment for reading and math using the STAR Renaissance Learning assessment. Students who attended Spooner Middle and Elementary Schools will be familiar with this brief assessment that provides great information regarding learning needs and strengths. Information from these assessments can inform our staff of individual and group performance in the areas of math and reading so that we can better meet their learning needs. We will administer the assessments two more times this year to monitor growth in learning goals.

Rails Recognition Rally

On the first Friday of each month, we take time out to recognize staff and students for outstanding achievements and spend time building community in our school. For the month of November, there was much to celebrate including students who traveled to the FFA National Convention, Wisconsin Music Association Honors students spoke about their experience performing in Madison at the end of October, and we celebrated Dan Pederson's Cross Country State Championship win by playing "Are You Faster Than Dan?" games.

Youth Frontiers to Retreat with Freshman

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, we are taking the 9th grade class to the Heartwood Conference Center for an impactful Respect Retreat. YouthFrontiers, an organization focused on improving relationships among students in learning communities, will work with our students on respecting themselves, respecting others, and standing up for respect. It is a powerful, memory – making, culture changing day for these students and ultimately, our school. We are looking very forward to this experience for our students and will share more after the event.
