Warner Update
Making a difference, one person at a time
Unconditional (Feb. 14)
Every week Deb brings in Dexter to hang out in the library. This week as school was getting ready to start I noticed a couple of kids that were looking down and dejected.
And then the moment happened.
They walked down the hallway and there was Dexter. Immediately they dropped to their knees, began to pet Dexter and big smiles lit up their faces. The entire time Dexter soaked it all up.
I've often wondered why people can't be more unconditional like dogs.
So often our minds are racing ahead to the next task or worrying about the future. We get overwhelmed or scared.
Other times we live in the past regretting something we did or didn’t do. We get sad and feel down.
When we’re in the present, though, we can find peace. It’s the only moment we can do anything about. Staying in the moment and being grateful for what is right in front of us.
Today, try to focus on the present. When you catch yourself worrying about the future or stuck in the past, gently remind yourself to get back to the present and the task that is right in front of you.
I believe we can learn a lot from our four-legged friends and I'm especially appreciative of Dexter and his ability to bring joy to others in the moment.
