Dolphin Tales
A Newsletter for Dove Elementary Families

A Note from the principal...
We had a great time at this year's talent show Friday night. Our students showcased their talents from singing and dancing to karate. At Dove, we work hard every day to get to know our students' interests and motivations and then use that to engage them in their learning. In GCISD, we have set a goal to use our students' voices to guide our unit design and planning. I hope in your conversations with your student at home you're hearing how our Dove teachers and staff are listening to your student. It's a great day to be a Dove Dolphin! Be sure to follow our story on Twitter using the hashtag #DESisBEST.
Proud to be your principal,

Learn more about International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Proud to be IB!
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Progamme (PYP) values inquiry-based learning, where students are active participants in the learning process. Students are encouraged to ask questions, research, organize, draw conclusions, and apply their learning. As we highlight different grade levels weekly, you’ll notice they are moving through an inquiry cycle. Last week 4th grade was “tuning in” to their How We Organize Ourselves unit and this week they have been “finding out” by researching and raising additional questions.
Third grade students applied what they have learned about how humans share their culture through celebrations. Students were excited to have an audience of peers and staff members for presentations. Students chose a variety of ways to share information including: digital presentations, visual displays, props, and plays. Students took notes while others presented and will reflect on how through this experience they have learned about the form of celebrations, perspective, and connections we all have.
7th Annual World Friendship Day
Hello Dove Parents and Guardians,
Our 7th Annual World Friendship Day at Dove is February 9th, 2018, and we need your help setting up the day before the event and/or help during the event. If you have a few hours to spare on either day, please use the Sign Up Genius link below.
Also, we would really love to reserve a table for you on Friendship Day if you would be willing to showcase your heritage/culture or teach us about a country you’ve lived in! For that, you will be needed from 7:50-2:00 with frequent breaks and an hour for lunch. You can use the Presenter slot of the form to sign up. Please indicate what country you will represent.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much!
Mrs. Mery
