Fund the Suns!!!!
Fund the Suns is the cornerstone for all fundraising at Double Peak School. The fund generates revenue that supports unique learning opportunities in innovation, art, Leader in Me, and additional initiatives that create motivation and passion for academic success. Fund the Suns is an annual fundraising activity, critical to the school’s enrichment programs and community-building activities, ensuring the extra margin of excellence not afforded by state funding.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students should complete and return their homework by Friday December 6! They will receive their new homework Monday!
- Innovation: Students will work on typing using different typing games/resources as well as get ready for hour of code next week which will be focused on seeing how many hours they can each code throughout the week (both at school & at home).
- ELA/Language Arts - We will be starting our new unit, Unit 4: Comparing Points of View. Our essential question is: What makes people view the same experience in different ways? Students will look at various stories from different points of view and compare and contrast them. This week we will be reading "Cinderella's Very Bad Day" written from Cinderella's point of view and "Cinderella, Too Much for Words" written from the stepsisters point of view. Reading standards we will be working on include: Identifying key events and summarizing & nonliteral language (hyperbole & Idioms). Unit 4 Parent Letter.
- Math - Our next unit continues with multiplication and division. Students will now be applying what they learned in unit 2 to problem solve using multiplication and division. We will be looking at various word problems and students will learn how to find the area of a given shape. We will also be continuing to practice solving word problems using all operations, which is a yearlong standard for third grade! Unit 3 Parent Letter.
- Writing -This week students will write a compare and contrast essay, using the two texts we read in class. Students will compare and contrast their point of view and the stepsisters point of view supporting their writing with evidence from the text.
- Spelling- This week we will focus on words with the open syllable pattern. Open syllables do not have a consonant sound after the vowel, usually making vowels in open syllables long. Our spelling words for this week are: vocabulary, replied, briars, lady, potatoes, music, began, apron.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials and context clues in a text to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Our vocab words for the unit include: bargain, broad, claims, composed, dash, detestable, essentially, impulsive, snatched, toil.
- 7 Habits - Habit of the Month: Habit 2-Begin with the End in Mind. HAVE A PLAN! What we want to see from students: initiative, responsibility, integrity and vision. What we want students to do: goal setting, planning, time management and organization.
