Newsletter Week 1 Term 4
Meeanee School 19th October, 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE SWIVELLY CHAIR
Students have made a great start to Term 4. For Year 8 students they only have 40 school days left at Meeanee School before they are off to High School. In just over a week and a half they, along with the rest of Papakura, are off to Wellington for their camp. During camp they will get to go to the Police Museum, Parliament, Te Papa, Space Place, Capital E, Zealandia, and head out to Somes Island on a ferry. Mrs McKay has put in a huge amount of work with organising and gaining grants to enable her class to go. Thanks Kelly for putting in the effort to give our kids an exciting experience.
Thanks to those families who have paid their sports fees. Please get this money in asap so that our teams can play this term. Invoices are being sent out.
Over the holidays it was great to see the success of a couple of our students outside of school. Tuta's Under 13 Hawke's Bay Basketball team won the Regional Competition, and Desmond gained first place at the Nationals with the Respect Dance Crew. Please let us know of these achievements and we will do our best at celebrating these with our community. Keep an eye out on our Meeanee School Community Facebook page.
If you are not receiving School App messages please email me, prinicpal@meeanee.school.nz and I will send you a new app invite. Important messages are sent out on this app. In the case of a lockdown or other emergency this would be our main form of communication.
Social Media - We are seeing more issues with messaging outside of school. Please if your child has social media check what is happening. We do not condone any form of bullying via Social Media. Please contact Netsafe if you find something worrying.

National Shake Out Day / Tsunami Hikoi
Next Thursday 27th of October we are going to be running our Earthquake/Tsunami procedure. This involves the whole school walking towards our tsunami evacuation point in Taradale. During our rehearsal we will be stopping at the end of the concrete path before the 70km/h outside Applethwaites Orchard. This is an important rehearsal in case we have to do it for real one day and your support would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help out by walking with our students please fill in the form that has been sent home.

Holiday work
While that was happening we had some shrubs removed from the front of the school. This is in readiness to hopefully have new fencing along the front.
