North Glendale Family Update
September 19, 2021
Good morning!
The Greentree Parade was a ROARING success!
We had a fabulous turnout to walk with our award winning float!
Our theme was THERE GROWS GLENDALE and came together under the vision and leadership of many NG parents ~ Dave and Colleen Wolf, Marty and Sarah Modray, John Sullivan, Brad Weitakamp, Aaron Schutte, Tara Wilkenson, Lou Jearls, Annie Kuhn, Cassie and Dan Zablotney (oh dear, if I forgot someone... )
It was a rolling nature preserve full of live flowers, shrubs and bushes. The extra special touches? All of the live plants were DONATED by Kirkwood Gardens and then PLANTED at NG immediately after the parade. Truly, an inspiration.
MANY, MANY THANSK TO ALL WHO WORKED, PLANNED, PLANTED, WALKED, AND/OR CHEERED!
IT WAS A GREAT DAY TO BE A SUPERSTAR!
Please reach out if I can be of support,
Jennifer
The only float with a treehouse!

MORNING DROP OFF SAFETY!
FRONT ENTRANCE CONSTRUCTION ADJUSTMENTS
We began construction on our new, accessible front entrance MONDAY! This is going to be such a positive enhancement for our school community (Thanks to Prop R!) even though the 6 weeks or so of construction will be a little ....inconvenient!
Please know that the entire front door structure will be completely off limits for 6 weeks. Walk in traffic will be diverted to the Chelsea door. For the time being, you will have to call the front office when you arrive at that door. We will have a tub outside for you to leave any items your kids have forgotten.
You should have heard from your teacher about any changes to their dismissal routines for taking walkers outside. For walkers/bike riders in the morning, kids will need to use either the North (parking lot) door or the South (Chelsea side door).
SSD/KSD Parent Advisory Council
Want to connect to other parents who have children receiving SSD services? Consider joining the PAC. We are meeting Thursday, September 30 at 6:30 in the Robinson Elementary cafeteria. We would love to have you join us!

The GLORY RUN is Back!
Please join friends and community members by participating in the 2nd Annual Glory Run/Walk Virtual Marathon. The Glory Run takes place throughout the month of October. Participants register online, track their miles, and share their experiences and photos to raise funds for a scholarship for a Kirkwood BIPOC (Black, Indigenous People of Color) student as part of KSDF's Named Award Scholarship program. To register, visit kirkwoodschools.org/GloryRun.
MOM, There was a dog at school today!
Chloe is undergoing extensive training to work and support all kids at NG. In her "off hours" she lives with Ms. Brooks, a member of our SSD team.
I have had the pleasure of working with dogs in schools for almost 10 years and have seen first hand the impact these non-judgemental and unconditionally loving supports can have.
Chloe is a very good girl and will be such a great addition to our supports for kids. She has already been to two of our faculty meetings to get used to NG adults, and spent time over the summer learning the building.
Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing more info on dogs in schools and the power a little time with a furry friend can have over someone who is just not feeling themselves (kids and adults!).
