ROBIN BENNETT - POSITIVE EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR MAY
(*This award is voted on by the North's Building Leadership Team from submissions entered by North faculty)
Spotlight on Speech
Hello North Families! As we prepare for the summer, it’s important to continue to think about ways to enrich language development. Luckily, almost any activity you do can be turned into a language activity. Here are just a few fun examples:
Play “I Spy” - This game is great for listening comprehension and describing.
Go on a Nature Hike - Pointing out and discussing different things that you see can be a great way to label, describe, and compare/contrast.
Read Together- This is the easiest way to introduce new vocabulary, hear examples of correct grammatical structure, and spark great discussions. Taking a trip to the library, reading outside, or watching a movie then reading a book that connects to the movie are some great ways to make this fun!
Here’s to a great finish to the school year and a great summer!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
North will be having a Summer Reading Program over summer break. During the last week of school, your child will come home with a bag of books and reading activities to complete throughout the summer. It is so important for students to read throughout the summer to help them continue to grow as readers!
When students come back for the 22-23 school year they can turn in their completed activities and their bag of books. The more activities and reading completed over the summer, the more ice cream/topping they will receive during our ice cream social! Students have to earn enough points to be able to attend the ice cream social. Information about how to earn points will be in the bag of books.
Fourth graders will be given a book and will come home with activities to complete over the summer. They do not have to return them because they will be in middle school. The activities are for reading fun and the book is a gift to keep!
Thank you for your effort to help encourage reading, it makes a difference!
Please let us know if you have any questions!

"CHECK OUT" WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE LIBRARY
I am very excited to begin my new role as Library Media Specialist. I have worked at North Elementary for the past eight years. During that time, I have taught the core subjects in both fifth and third grades.
My vision for the role of Library Media Specialist focuses on three main aspects: reading, collaboration, and technology. First and foremost, I will strive to instill a love of reading in all of the students. I will work to get to know each student at North so I can help them choose books based on their interests. Next, I will collaborate with classroom teachers so I can support what they are doing in their classrooms. Finally, my vision is to work with both teachers and students around technology to enhance learning and increase engagement.
I look forward to supporting students and teachers in my new role!
