A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan families,
Lucky us to be Sheridan Sharks! We’ve been seeing GREEN all day, and enjoying the energy in the hallways surrounded by 267 little leprechauns! Today was extra-spirited because our Shark House Family Event brought everyone together to play math games as part of March Math Madness. Games are a great way to practice fact fluency. Ask your child about it – they may even teach you how to play PIG.
New Baby Shark!: Ms. Puglisi had a healthy baby girl today, March 17th and will be out on maternity leave. You will hear your children talk about Mrs. Sorboro, who has been a Preferred Building Substitute for the past two school years, taking over Science class. We are so excited for Ms. Puglisi to begin her journey as a mom and Mrs. Sorboro to step into this role!
Spirit of 67 Goal ACHIEVED!:Thank you to all who helped to make this possible! We are so fortunate to have such generosity in our community, in service of our fabulous students!
Parent Input for 2023-2024 School Year: The placement of students in classes is a lengthy process, which begins in April and continues through May. The classroom teacher, as well as other staff members who have contact with the student, look at a number of factors as class lists are created.
Factors include a student’s academic abilities, social and emotional needs and any special needs as we make placement decisions. We strive to have classes which balance gender, student abilities, special needs, social relationships, and personality.
Staff will be working collaboratively with the administration to create balanced homerooms for next year. As always, you will know your child's homeroom teacher in August.
If you have information that you would like to share regarding your child, please submit your thoughts though this optional FORM by March 24th.
Please note: Specific teacher requests will not be considered. Please make sure your input is provided in relation to the environmental factors that will help your child find the most success.
From Your Librarian: Looking for some fun St. Patrick's Day reading, drawing and exploring activities? Check out this CHOICE BOARD...students will need to be logged in with their Google logins to access. Thanks for helping your child return his library books! Keep it going! We appreciate it.
From the Office Staff: Please let us know if your child will be missing school in the days before or after Spring Break. Send an email to mhanlon@lfschools.net and sthiergart@lfschools.net so we don’t need to interrupt your vacation with attendance questions. Thank you and safe travels to all!
Pilot Update for Families: Over the past several weeks, we have been engaging in our literacy pilot. Want to learn how it’s going? Check it out HERE!
Spring IAR Testing: Sheridan students will be taking the IAR on April 11-13. Please do everything you can to NOT pull your 3rd or 4th graders out of school on those dates. Thank you for your cooperation!
Please see below for the information about IAR testing that was included in the District's 411 Newsletter this week:
District 67 students in grades 3-8 will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) April 10-21. Students in grades 5 and 8 will take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) during the same time. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.
IAR participation rates are used by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) when calculating ELA, math, and science proficiency scores. We must have 95 percent participation in all areas to receive the maximum points possible. Proficiency scores are used to calculate an overall Summative Designation for each school. Illinois has 4 summative designations: Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted, and Comprehensive. ISBE includes school summative designations annually in the Illinois Report Card. A participation rate lower than 95 percent negatively impacts the Summative Designation for each school. Schools that have less than 95 percent participation are ineligible to receive an Exemplary designation.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan

CANCELLED: Community Safety Series - What Parents Need to Know about Fentanyl
The March 21 Community Safety Series - What Parents Need to Know about Fentanyl will need to be rescheduled. We will reach out with a new date once one has been determined.
Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project
The City of Lake Forest is beginning construction on the Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project - located at the Lake Forest Recreation Center, behind Deer Path Middle School. The project involves installing synthetic turf athletic fields and additional amenities for the community park. The majority of construction activities will be confined to the project site, which includes Deerpath Community Park fields and tennis courts behind DPM. The City has been extremely collaborative and intentionally timed the launch of this work to be the least disruptive by scheduling start during the week DPM is closed over Spring Break. The contractor will also work to limit activity during pickup and dropoff times at the school. For reasons of safety, drivers are asked to follow all directional signage. Please note that the fields behind DPM will not be used by our students during construction. Outdoor activities will be diverted to other DPM outdoor spaces. We appreciate your patience. More information about the Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project may be found at http://www.cityoflakeforest.com/DeerpathPark
