Personnel Changes

For 2018-2019, STEM classes will be scheduled for all three grade levels. The Middle School will no longer share a STEM teacher with the High School. Mr. Nathan Huffman, who was the shared STEM teacher last year, has moved on to a new position in another school district. Coming to us from the Elementary school to be our new STEM teacher is Mr. Dave Daniels.

Mrs. Kelly Achenbach, 6th grade ELA teacher, has resigned her position at the end of the 2017-18 school year. Mrs. Achenbach and her family moved out of the area. We have hired and welcome Ms. Mallory Keim as the new 6th grade ELA teacher. Welcome Ms. Keim!

Due to a resignation at the Oley Valley High School, an English position was opened that will be filled by the Middle School's own Ms. Stormy Russell. As Ms. Russell transfers to the High School, we are in the process of hiring a replacement.

Also transferring to the High School is Mrs. Nancy Stump. Mrs. Stump is a special education teacher and came to the Middle School last year. We wish Ms. Russell and Mrs. Stump the best of luck at the High School.

Middle School 1:1

For the 2017-2018 school year, 8th grade students will be permitted to take the computer home for the 1:1 computer program. For 2018-2019, this program is being expanded to include grade 7. Both 7th and 8th grade students will possess their computers for the entire school year. Issued with the computers are padded computer bags and chargers. Sixth grade students will be issued a computer to use for the school year. That computer, however, will remain at school.

All students will be issued computers during the first week of school.

Pre-Alg for 6th Grade

The Middle School is once again offering Pre-Algebra to incoming 6th grade students who have a strong desire to pursue this math acceleration. Pre-Algebra is offered via the Berks OnLine program. It is noted that Pre-Algebra is taken IN ADDITION to the Math 6 curriculum and that work for this course is completed largely outside of the regular school day.

An information session is being held for all interested 6th grade students and parents on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:00pm in the Middle School Auditorium.

Laurel Life Comes to the Middle School

Laurel Life’s transition classroom program provides support to students that struggle in traditional classroom settings. With a focus on prevention and early intervention, Laurel Life’s transition classroom gives students the customized treatment they need while keeping them in their home school district and on track academically.

Laurel Life has been quite successful in the Oley Valley Elementary School. Laurel Life will be expanding to include a classroom in the Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year. We look forward to this terrific partnership!

Middle School Supplies

We are happy to supply nearly all of the supplies that students need for the school year. We do ask that students bring pencils and paper. As we are a 1:1 middle school, with 7th and 8th grade students taking those computers home, it would be good for your child to have their own set of earbuds. Please do NOT have them bring headphones. If possible, please have your son/daughter bring their earbuds to school on a daily basis.

Home Access

Online home access is a valuable tool for parents, guardians and students to access grade and attendance information. Your login and password can be obtained by visiting the Middle School Office and will remain the same each year. Directions on use of and access to Parent Home Access can be found at www.oleyvalleysd.org.

Parent Access opens on the first day of school...Tuesday, September 21, 2018!
