Lost items at school?
Student council is going through the items that are currently in the Tiffany Ridge Lost and Found and will be trying to find owners this week. We will have an area during the carnival that parents can come and claim lost items. After the carnival, the items will be boxed up and sent to the Park Hill district clothing closet.
Author Bridget Heos Visits Tiffany Ridge!
3rd -5th: 9-9:50 Nonfiction: Stronger than Steel and Stranger than Fiction
Ants falling from the edge of outer space without getting hurt. Goats infected with spider DNA so that they can produce spider silk. Old murder cases solved by modern forensic science. And birds that paint and decorate their homes. All these stranger than fiction subjects will be covered in this presentation. In the process, students will learn how a nonfiction book is made, including the research involved. Books covered include I, FLY: THE BUZZ ABOUT FLIES AND HOW AWESOME THEY ARE; STRONGER THAN STEEL: SPIDER SILK DNA AND THE QUEST FOR BETTER BULLETPROOF VESTS, SUTURES, AND PARACHUTE ROPE; BLOOD, BULLETS, AND BONES: THE STORY OF FORENSIC SCIENCE FROM SHERLOCK HOLMES TO DNA (2016), BIRDS: JUST LIKE US, and ANTS: JUST LIKE US (2017).
K-2nd: 10-10:50 Mustache Baby and More
Students will learn how picture books like MUSTACHE BABY are made, and how nonfiction books such as I, FLY: THE BUZZ ABOUT FLIES AND HOW AWESOME THEY ARE, WHO WANTS TO BE A PRINCESS, JUST LIKE US! ANTS, and JUST LIKE US! BIRDS are written. Students will also brainstorm fiction story ideas that are based on real life. They'll also be encouraged to put their hearts into their writing through the hard work of revising. Finally, we'll read MUSTACHE BABY, adding mustache-stic sound effects! Students will leave inspired to read and write - both fiction and non-fiction!

Start Times Will Not Change Next Year
Based on overwhelming feedback from our Park Hill parents, staff members, students and community members, we will not change our start times for the 2019-2020 school year.
“The Board and the district care deeply about our families, and we hear what they are telling us,” Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd said. “We still have a problem to solve, and I believe we can all solve it together.”
Feedback:
We actively listened to your feedback about our proposed new start times. We received almost 1,800 survey responses in Park Hill Listens, including more than 1,100 comments and suggestions.
Almost all of those comments expressed concerns about our plans. We also received more than 120 questions, asking for more information about the problem we were trying to solve and the solution we had proposed. Many of the questions and comments centered on the idea of later start times for high-school students.
Next Steps:
We will stop and take some time to develop a new plan to address the issues caused here in Park Hill by the ongoing, nationwide bus driver shortage. We will also study the impacts of later high-school start times on students’ academics and opportunities.
As we figure out our plans, we will share a timeline for the process, we will consult with our families, our staff and our community, we will make accommodations in the budget, and we will publicly share all the complex issues that factor into this problem and any potential solutions.
Continuing Problem:
This means we will still have frustrating challenges because of the nationwide shortage of bus drivers. In addition, we will open two new schools this fall, which means we must stretch our limited number of bus drivers over even more routes.
Until we have a better solution to the problem, we will continue our efforts to help First Student improve this issue for our families.
Moving Forward:
“We appreciate our Park Hill family, and we appreciate everyone’s support as we try to find the best possible solution for Park Hill,” Dr. Cowherd said.
Be a Foundation Member in Honor of Someone Special
Did you know our district has an Education Foundation? Our school has benefited greatly over the years from the Park Hill Education Foundation grants. In fact, Tiffany Ridge has received 9 grants worth $12,648. The more funding the Foundation has, the more money gets put into our classrooms. If you join today, your support will honor the exceptional work of our teachers and students. If you join before the end of April, $5 will go to the District PTA Clothing Center, and you will get a personalized window cling! Membership is only $30 a year and our students and teachers will feel the impact.
