We Remember

Where were you?

I think we talk about this each year on the anniversary of 9-11, and it gives us time to reflect on how our world has changed in the last 14 years. I had started my 2nd year of teaching third grade at Armstrong Elementary, and I remember Callee Dillon coming in my classroom right when the 7:50 bell rang. She told me there had been a plane crash, and I hate to admit this, but I was so focused on getting my classroom ready that I didn't engage in a conversation about it. And, for those of us that have been around while, smartphones and notifications did not exist! I really didn't know what happened. The next thing I knew, the counselor was coming around asking each of us if our kids were upset about the event. We tried our best to protect the sweet, innocent little souls, but it sure was hard. The building was locked down, the news was playing on a TV that our custodian brought into the lounge, and the world was turned upside down. We are forever grateful for the men and women that lost their lives for our freedom. Take some time to hug your loved ones and remember the hurting families. This picture of a beautiful rainbow over the World Trade Center was captured and posted on social media last night. What a wonderful gift of hope for the future.
