Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
It is hard to believe the first trimester is over! Today we are sending home the first trimester report cards with all students. When talking with your child about his or her report card, it will be a more meaningful conversation if the focus is not entirely on the numbers and letters. You may want to focus on highlighting areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Goal setting is a good way to help children take ownership of their own learning. When discussing strengths, you may ask your child what actions on his or her part contributed to successes. When discussing areas for growth, you could ask your child to brainstorm things he or she could do to improve. When I was teaching fifth grade, my students would frequently say things like "study more". While this is a good response, it is not specific enough to be useful. I used to encourage students to think of concrete ideas, such as making flashcards for vocabulary words.
Teachers are looking forward to talking with you at parent and teacher conferences! Our conferences are next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 3:40-7:40pm. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for you to talk face to face with your child’s teacher about his or her academic, social and emotional growth. In addition to attending the scheduled conference with your child’s homeroom teacher, our other teachers are also available on those evenings. Feel free to contact them to set up a time to talk.
We have a new parent resources page on our website to help you access available technology. Please visit it at this link.
Now that winter weather has arrived, our drop off and pick up times are even more challenging. Please make every effort to abide by the posted signs. Drop off and pick up in the staff parking lot and front parking lot is not allowed, unless the handicap spots are being used by those displaying the appropriate placard.
Next week you will get a PTO newsletter. I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your families and happy, safe and relaxing Thanksgiving break. Our staff are thankful to have the opportunity to work with engaged students and families in a community that supports education. Thanks for all you do to make Lions Park a wonderful place to learn and work.
