GMS Weekly News and Notes
Weekly Updates
It was a busy start to the month of November at GMS. Our music and performing arts teachers set up an incredible display in our main lobby in order to celebrate the variety of ways that music and theater positively impact our lives. I am grateful to Ms. Pabon, Ms. Hitchcock, Ms. Carlson, and Mr. Langmeyer for their efforts.
Our student musicians spent most of their X Block time preparing for their performances at Cantonstock on Saturday. They did a terrific job!
The GMS cross country team wrapped up another very successful season, with several members of the team qualifying to participate at the All-State Middle School Cross Country Championships, which took place on Saturday in Devens, MA. We're all incredibly proud of our GMS student-athletes! Special thanks to Mr. Gibson, Ms. Gonzalez, and Ms. Dineen for their support of the program.
Our leadership team hosted brief assemblies with each grade level during different X Blocks last week. The purpose of the assemblies was to remind students about behavioral expectations on the buses and during lunch. While a good majority of GMS students continue to meet our behavioral expectations consistently, we do continue to receive complaints about behavior on buses. It is important for parents to know that students who are found to be repeatedly creating an unsafe environment on the bus will face removal from the bus for a period of time.
We did see an improvement in overall lunch behavior this week. 6th grade, in particular, did very well. That said, there is room for improvement in terms of behavior while in line for lunch and in cleaning up tables before the end of lunch. We need our older students to lead by example in these areas.
Finally, a request to parents who drop their children off in the morning. Please aim to drop your students off by 7:40 AM at the latest. It is very important for our students to be in their first block classroom by the time the day officially starts at 7:45. This way, the students are ready for the day and won't miss any morning announcements.

In-person Parent-Teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday, November 16th between 2:30 and 8:00 PM. In the interest of providing equitable access to all families, we will also host virtual conferences on Friday, November 18th between noon and 2:30 PM.
On November 9th, families will receive an email containing information on sign-ups. Appointments may be reserved for 5 minute check-ins with individual teachers via our online sign-up system. Please note that we will be unable to switch an appointment from in-person to virtual or vice versa, so please choose the format that works best for you.
I also encourage parents and guardians to reach out to teachers or other GMS staff by email any time you have a question related to a specific class or program. We want our lines of communication open at all times!
