Principal's Message

Dear Jackie Robinson K- 8 Community,


Thank you for all your efforts to connect with our teachers during fall conferences. Our Robinson staff has committed itself to holding meaningful conversations around student achievement during distance learning and best ways parents can continue to support our collective efforts. I truly hope that you walked away from these meetings with a better understanding of how teachers are navigating the challenges of distance learning but with a dedicated focus on how your child is learning academic skills and content all while keeping a pulse on their social reminder that Monday, November 9th, marks our final day of parent conferences and minimum days.


For this upcoming week we will hold our ELAC and School Site Council Meeting. We welcome you to join us and provide us feedback on what has been working for your kids at home and listen in on plans we have to further support our students with distance learning. Below find copies of our agendas.


Thank you to the families that attended our School2Home parent trainings. Remember that this program is available to help support your technology needs. Stay tuned for additional information flyers.

Zoom Expectations Assembly

This week we will be hosting a Zoom Expectations Assembly with our Middle School students. The Assembly will detail the Virtual Learning Expectations that have been outlined by our District. They are as follows:
  • Log in before class begins.

  • For attendance purposes, keep your camera on and be present during class.

  • Have your microphone muted when the teacher and others are speaking.

  • The virtual learning course is intended for enrolled students only.

  • The virtual learning course is intellectual property. Pictures and/or recordings of the virtual lesson, the teacher or other students is prohibited.

  • Using images of teachers and students in any format is prohibited

  • Using images of teachers and/or students in any format to engage in harassment, intimidation, bullying, etc. is prohibited.

LBUSD's Virtual Learning Student/Parent Contract can be found HERE. Please be sure to review the contract with your child.

ATTENTION All Parents of English Language Learners

We will be hosting our ELAC Meeting of the 2020 -21 school year on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 2:30pm. WE NEED YOUR VOICE, PLEASE ATTEND. The purpose of this meeting is to give parents of English Language Learners an opportunity to voice their child's academic needs and make suggestions regarding instructional programs they feel will be beneficial to their child's academic success. Friendsgiving Week: November 16-20

Thank you for a beautiful Student of the Month celebration on Friday, it is always good to see our students celebrate with their families. Certificates and JROB cups are available for pick up during lunch time on Monday 11/9


LB College Promise


Congratulations to our 8th grade LB College Promise recipient Italy Gonzalez. Italy will receive tuition-free instruction for the first two years at LBCC and is guaranteed admission to CSULB.


Thanksgiving


Thanksgiving is the month of hope and blessings. We are grateful for all of you and all the work that you do for our students and community. Let us show our support and love of giving to our families by donating Holiday Baskets. I am asking that each grade level adopt a family or 2 and donate a basket, I am ready to deliver. Please email Rima the name of the family you are willing to adopt.

Indigenous Peoples' Month

National American Indian Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the accomplishments of the peoples who were the original inhabitants, explorers and settlers of the United States. Native American Heritage Month has evolved from its beginnings as a week-long celebration in 1986, when President Reagan proclaimed the week of November 23-30, 1986 as "American Indian Week." Every President since 1995 has issued annual proclamations designating the month of November as the time to celebrate the culture, accomplishments, and contributions of people who were the first inhabitants of the United States.

Summary of Meal Service Changes, Effective October 19, 2020

To improve meal services and support the needs of families in our community and our employees, Nutrition Services will make the following changes in meal distribution, effective October 19, 2020:


1. Grab and Go meals for two days at each pick-up – Students and parents/guardians may pick up two days’ worth of meals on alternate days instead of making the daily trips.



  • Monday’s pick-up includes meals for Monday and Tuesday.
  • Wednesday’s pick up is for Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Friday and Saturday’s meals are available for pick-up on Friday.



This change is in support of social distancing and minimizes the exposure of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for families and our frontline employees.


2. Four meal types will be available for each day: breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper at all service locations – Each recipient will receive eight meals as a unit.


3. Universal meal pick up period from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – This change streamlines the meal pick up period for all service locations regardless of grade levels and takes the guesswork out of parents on the meal pick up time, especially for parents with school age children in multiple grade levels.


4. Offer versus Serve for milk – This change allows recipients to decline milk or take only the quantity of milk that they desire to reduce waste.


Parents/guardians picking up meals without children present or picking up additional meals for children who stay at home must present documentation for verification. Nutrition Services Branch employees are expected to ask for the acceptable documents daily even if the parents/guardians have been visiting the same location. The acceptable documents include but are not limited to the following.


a. LBUSD student ID

b. Any student ID issued by any agencies

c. Benefit issuance letter showing children are part of the adult’s household:

§ Meal Eligibility Letter from LBUSD or any districts

§ Benefit issuance document from Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

d. Tax Returns

e. Birth Certificate

f. Any official documents showing children are part of the adult’s household

Robinson families - we are here to assist you in any way we possibly can. We understand the challenges you are facing and want you to know, we are doing our best to help you with any issue's you are having and hopefully we can resolve the issue's over the phone and get your students into their classrooms as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience as we too are learning this new way of education.



From our Ms. Josie, Banker - We still have some 2019-20 Robinson yearbooks on sale for $22. Please contact the Banker if you would like to purchase one. Third grade: parents will sign a form acknowledging receipt of recorder. Int Band: students will either bring a pre-signed form which is on their Canvas, or parents will sign a form at distribution.
