About the Newslettter
Please take a moment to review the following newsletter. It includes important dates and information regarding upcoming events, classroom updates, and new learning that will take place. It also may include links and/or google docs that you may want to visit.
English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below you will find the skills that we will review/learn during the upcoming week.
This week we will continue with Start Smart (Week 2) . It is a three week review of basic skills, getting to know each other, and getting to know classroom routines and procedures.
Daily Message
- We will be getting to know the five parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature) during the Daily Message.
- We will discuss and locate names, capital letters. and sight words (I and can)
Word Work
- We will be reviewing and practice writing Ii Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo, and Pp.
- We will segment sentences (identifying the number of words in a sentence
- We will find rhyming words in poems.
Wonders Comprehension
- We will review the procedures for book handling.
- We will discuss the concept of families and what families do together.
- We will listen to and answer questions about Tikki, Tikki, Tembo and ABC Big Book.
Center Time
- Word Work - Students will sort letters and words.
- Art - Students will paint and decorate a book box that will be sent home to store the books they make in class.
- Book Making - Students will complete an activity with the sight words I and can.
- Small Group - Students will work with the teacher on skills identified for that group.
Content/Writing
- We will review/learn the sight words I and can.
- We will take part in a shared reading about families.
- We will complete sentences (I can..., We can..., My family and I can...We can go...) orally and/or written form.
Math
Counting and Quantity
- We will count and keep track.
- We will create an equivalent set.
- We will establish one-to-one correspondence between equal groups.
Sorting and Classifying
- We will identify attributes (e.g. color, size, and shape) by developing language to describe them.
- We will compare how objects are the same and different.
- We will find objects that share one attribute.

The book order has been submitted and should be here in soon. We had such a large order that I was able to get many free books for our class library.

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
We will be celebrating monthly birthdays with our class the last Friday of each unless there is a conflict in the schedule.
Parents (no siblings) are invited to join us for singing and extra free time or special activity).
Food is not permitted. However if you would like to have your child donate an indoor or outdoor recess item, book, craft, or any other creative nonfood idea that is fine.
