The Montebello School Newsletter: May 2023
Principal's Message
Montebello Community,
We are fast approaching the end of SY 2022-2023, our centennial year of service to the Baltimore City community. We have many things to celebrate and look forward to in the remaining weeks of school. We are preparing for our closing exercises for our Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 5th Grade and 8th Grade Scholars. We will be celebrating their accomplishments and academic achievements as they transition into the next phase of their education.
We are firmly in the middle of our assessment calendar and our students are taking MCAP in Mathematics and English Language Arts as well as curriculum assessments. It is important that students attend regularly so that they can acquire the information necessary to do well on the assessments. Our testing window goes through the month of May, ending on May 26, 2023. All testing and make-up testing must be complete by that date.
Montebello will be hosting two (2) major events in the upcoming weeks for students and families. On Friday, May 12, 2023 we will have "Montebello Day" a carnival type activity day with games, food and fun. Students will rotate out by grade bands and enjoy the activities we have scheduled. Families are welcome to participate during their students' time outside. The next event is Montebello's Cultural Night, sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Committee. We want to celebrate the cultural diversity of our school community. They have planned a night of cultural awareness activities, food, and music that is designed to make our students and families aware of the beauty of diversity. This event is open to families and the community on Friday, May 19, 2023.
Schools in the United States acknowledge educators the week of May 8, 2023 for Teacher Appreciation Week. Send your teachers a thank you note for all of the wonderful things they do for our students. Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring that our students receive the comprehensive education they deserve each day. When you see your teacher thank them.
Finally, it continues to be the ultimate honor to be principal of Montebello Elementary Middle School. Our goal is to provide the Montebello community a learning experience and environment that is world class because our students and families deserve it. Thank you for partnering with us in creating the school that WE want.
