Dear NSD Families and Staff,
I trust you all navigated yesterday's Nor'Easter safely. Keep the faith because spring arrives at least officially Monday.
Student ambassadors from the Nashua Technology Center took center stage at Monday's Nashua Board of Education meeting to explain the great benefits of enrolling in one of the 20 technical disciplines offered at both Nashua High School North and Nashua High School South.
The students representing biotechnology & biomedical sciences, business, careers in education, computer networking & cybersecurity, design & visual communication, and video production spoke of how they have a leg up on gaining expertise in a potential career field. I am continually impressed to learn how much we offer our high school students. My thanks to our NTC student ambassadors, their advisors, and Yvette Hester, CTE Program Manager, for a great presentation.
Last week Cherrie Fulton and Kelley Paradis shared with us their plans to retire at the end of the school year. Both, respectively, have served Dr. Norman W. Crisp Elementary School and Main Dunstable Elementary School admirably as principals, drawing on many years as longtime educators in the school district. I wish them all the best and continued success in their new endeavors.
Thank you.
Mario Andrade, Ed.D.

Nashua Board of Education
The Nashua Board of Education met Monday and opened the meeting with a presentation by the NTC Student Ambassadors. Please click here for a link to the meeting video to view their terrific presentation in the 20 disciplines offered in our high schools.
The Board approved the 2023-2024 school district calendar, which reinstates five early release dates over the course of the school year. If you remember, early release dates were eliminated from the calendar this year but the need for professional development opportunities for our teaching staff has increased.
The Nashua Board of Education begins development of the operating budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Dr. Andrade will present his recommended budget next Wednesday, March 22, to the Board's Budget Committee. Development of the budget will be documented on nashua.edu.
The next Nashua Board of Education meeting will be held Monday, March 27, 2023 at Nashua High School North.

Congratulations to Aundrea McCarthy, South Class of 2024, who won a 2023 Scholastic Art Award, Gold Key, for a charcoal on paper drawing (above) titled "Suffocation."
Aundrea and her six fellow classmates at Nashua HS South submitted collectively 13 pieces of art that won 2023 Scholastic Art Awards for their amazing creativity!

Nashua Board of Education Meeting
Good evening,
Thank you for a great work session last week on redistricting and thank you to the members of the Redistricting Committee for their timely work over the course of the last several weeks on reviewing boundary lines for our middle schools. We continue to work with our consultant, Preston Smith of Business Information Resources of Blue Springs, Missouri.
I will be back in touch with everyone once we have scheduled our community meetings to review the work of the Redistricting Committee. To keep up to date with the development of redistricting plans, please log onto our website at nashua.edu for the redistricting page.
MathCounts
Congratulations to two middle school mathletes: Sujit Sathyamurthi, seventh grader, and Annika Garimella, eighth grader, both from Fairgrounds Middle School for competing in the MathCounts state competition this weekend in Concord.
Sujit placed 11th out of approximately 80 participants. Congratulations to both Sujit and Annika for their great success in the study of mathematics!
Foreign Language Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Claudia Decker, Spanish Teacher at Nashua HS North, for being named NECTFL (Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) 2023 Teacher of the Year!
The award was announced last Friday at the annual NECTFL Awards Ceremony in New York City, honoring her career in the field, proficiency in the use of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) standards, and elevating her teaching of language and culture as essential for students' understanding of their role as citizens of the world.
Claudia will represent NECTFL during the National Language Teacher of the Year competition at the ACTFL Convention in Chicago in November.
Again, congratulations and best of luck!

March is Music and Art in the Schools Month
If you have a few minutes, I highly recommend stopping by the Main Street corridor at South to view the incredible artwork on display as part of the Youth Art Month Exhibit.
All schools are included and it is wonderful to see the progression in technique and talent from students in PreK all the way to high school. The art teachers are hosting an open house from 6-8 pm next Tuesday, March 21 at South. We all hope to see you there.
Also, several school music concerts are taking place in celebration of Music in the Schools month. As one example, South is hosting an instrumental concert featuring bands from Elm Street and Fairgrounds Middle Schools, joining with the South Select Band and Concert Band this Wednesday at 6:30 pm at South. Arrive early for a seat because I am sure the auditorium will be filled with family and friends.
Thank you.

Congratulations to Claudia Decker, Spanish Teacher at Nashua HS North, for being named NECTFL 2023 Teacher of the Year! (Note reference above)
