What's Happening at Res This Week?
As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, you will find that we have a busy week scheduled! We begin our celebration with Mass on Monday and will conclude the week with our Winter Pep Rally on Friday. Both schedules can be found in deeper detail below. The week will also include the V-Show on Thursday and class prayer services held during seminar (please see below). Outstanding happenings around the building:
1. Connie Castellucci for organizing and hosting Wednesday's Welcome Dinner for the Class of 2022.
2. Josh Wiechert for his student's understanding of momentum and impulse, leading to successfully caught eggs, preventing a cleanup in the hallways!

Instruction & Technology Follow-Up From Last Week
Instruction & Technology Updates
Surprise! We are closer to 2040 than 1990!
Think about our world in 1990. The Dow-Jones was at 3000, gas was $1.25 a gallon and our federal debt was only $3206.6 billion! Today, the Dow is above 26,000 (I wish I had invested more), gas has doubled to an average of $2.53 and the debt now stands at 20 Trillion dollars!
Schools in the 90's featured floppy disks, computer labs with Macintosh Classic computers, overhead projectors, a substitute teacher on a rolly-cart TV and huge advancements in pen technology. In many schools today, you will find that most computer labs have vanished with the introduction of 1:1 learning, damaged floppy disks have been replaced by cloud storage and overheads replaced by projectors. On top of classroom advancements, many schools now have 3D printers, virtual reality, recording studios, laser cutting machines and robotics!
As the world and technology around us continue to evolve, we need to ask ourselves if we are preparing our students with the content and skills to help them succeed in 2040, not 1990. That being said, we also need to remind ourselves of what doesn't change, the need for educators to connect with students, believe in students and challenge students. Throughout the year we have highlighted talks from Rita Pierson (Every Student Needs a Champion), Angela Maiers (You Matter Movement), and student TED Talks (Meet Julia Delmedico). Each of these speakers delivered talks that can be summed up by this popular education quote:
"People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
In our ever-changing world, this is at the core of education. Instructional strategies are important, the content is important, our assessments are important, the development of 21st century skills and use of technology is important...but, if we don't start with the quote above, none of the things listed will have the impact we desire. As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week and the vocation we have been called to serve, let us take some time to remember the reason we are all here and what drives us to go the extra mile... our terrific young women who are challenged to "go make a difference". Happy Catholic Schools Week and THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO!

Student Services!
The Angst presentation was very well received by the student body. Based on the post-evaluations, the students felt it struck a cord with them. The evening presentation for community members went great. In attendance were Res parents, feeder school families, CPS teachers, and other school personnel. We had a panel of 5 mental health professionals that answered questions and provided insight about therapy for anxiety.
Next week, Mary Bridich will be attending an autism conference. Hopefully she will have some helpful information to bring back to the faculty and staff.
Kristine Owens and Meredith Rogers took the Mother Celine Scholars to Loyola University for a college tour. Despite the chilly weather, everyone gained valuable information about the school.
