Ecology Scavenger Hunt
Lilly Kottak and Jacqueline Durand
Abiotic
Water is a nonliving factor of the environment.
Biotic
All living things are biotic factors in the environment and this is an example.
Autotroph
Autotrophs obtain energy with photosynthesis.
Heterotroph
Heterotrophs need complex organic compounds to get their energy. Dogs are an example.
Mutualism
both species benefit-Humans have "good bacteria" in their digestive system. This is a picture of my nephew.
Commensalism
This is a picture of a branch, another plant begins to grow off this branch. The branch is left unharmed and the plant has new life and is higher to sunlight.
Parasitism
Dani represents the parasites and Cory represents the host. Parasites attach to their hosts.
Food Chain
Producer
Any type of grass/plant can be a producer in a food chain.
Primary Consumer
Fish eat kelp, which is a type of grass.
Secondary Consumer
Sharks eat some types of fish.
Carbon Cycle-4 ways carbon gets into atmosphere and one way it gets taken out
1st way carbon gets into the atmosphere
When a human breathes out, they release carbon.
2nd way carbon gets into the atmosphere
car exhaust
3rd way carbon gets into the atmosphere
pool represented as a lake
4th way carbon gets into atmosphere
Burning fossil fuels allows carbon to enter the atmosphere.
1st way carbon gets taken out of atmosphere
The process called respiration takes carbon out of the atmosphere.
Nitrogen Cycle-2 ways to make nitrogen usable and 2 ways to get nitrogen back into atmosphere or soil
1st way to make nitrogen usable
LIGHTNING OR THUNDER STORM During thunder storms, lightning causes nitrogen gas to collect in clouds and that becomes usable nitrogen.
2nd way to make nitrogen usable
When nitrogen gas it collected in the clouds, and it rains and fills up lakes, usable nitrogen is stored in the lakes and oceans. My pool represents a lake.
1st way to make nitrogen return to atmosphere
After it rains outside, the nitrogen from the clouds get absorbed into the soil and nitrogen is in the atmosphere.
2nd way to make nitrogen return to atmosphere
Way to get nitrogen back into atmospheres. When a animal dies their bodies decomposes which brings the nitrogen into soil on land or in the water by ocean.
Water Cycle-Transpiration, precipitation, evaporation, condensation-and direction they go
transpiration
Transpiration is the evaporation of water through plant leaves (direction is down)
precipitation
When water falls from the clouds and onto the earth's surface like rain, sleet, and snow. (direction is down)
evaporation
When a liquid is reaches a point and becomes a gas in the air. (direction is up)
condensation
This glass of ice tea has condensation all over it because the ice made it so cold, it essentially started "sweating".
