Dear Families,


Welcome to Melrose Leadership Academy!


As the world begins to reopen and we all take steps to heal from the pandemic, we can't think of a better way to celebrate than to plan for fully reopening our doors (and our new campus and play structure!) to you and your kiddos in the fall.


To those of you who have returning students at MLA, welcome back! To our new students, thank you so much for choosing to join the MLA family. We can't wait to meet you.


One of the ways we communicate with our families is through this Bulletin, which is sent approximately twice a month. The Bulletin will share updates that apply to the whole school. Once you have registered your child in July, you will begin to receive updates from both MLA and the District Central Office through an app called ParentSquare. More detailed information that applies directly to your child's class or grade level will be shared by your child's teacher or room parent once school resumes.


If you would like an additional family member to receive the Bulletin, please email MLA.Apoyo@gmail.com with the request "please add me to the Bulletin" and include their email address. If your child has left MLA and you no longer wish to receive the Bulletin, please scroll to the bottom of the Bulletin and click "unsubscribe".

Preparing for 2021-2022

Registration:

We know many of you are anxious about taking next steps to complete your child's registration for the 21-22 school year. The registration process will begin in early-mid July. We will share next steps with you in a future Bulletin. In the meantime, please read this update from OUSD News regarding options for the fall.


MLA Academic Calendar:
  • Please find the draft academic calendar linked here and attached below.
  • Please note that the calendar is still subject to minor revisions.


MLA Bell Schedule:

We will share the finalized bell schedule in a future bulletin. In the meantime, please note the drop-off and dismissal details below. We have intentionally staggered dismissal times to support families with children on both campuses.


TK-K: (Sherman Campus)

  • Regular Day: 8:30-2:30
  • Minimum Day: 8:30-1:00


1st-2nd: (Sherman Campus)

  • Regular Day: 8:30-2:35
  • Minimum Day: 8:30-1:05


3rd-5th: (Maxwell Campus)

  • Regular Day: 8:30-2:45
  • Minimum Day: 8:30-1:15


6th-8th: (Maxwell Campus)

  • Regular Day: 8:30-3:15
  • Minimum Day: 8:30-1:15

Check out our new TK-2 play structure!

We are SO excited to share the news that we have a new TK-2 play structure and mat for the Sherman Campus. A huge thank you and shout-out to the OUSD Blueprint and Facilities Department for making this happen, and to our returning TK-2 students and teachers for their patience this spring during construction.

After School Program

After School Program

  • Please see this letter from LoveLearnSuccess regarding registering for the Community Bridges After School Program. You should have received this letter directly from Armando Garcia, our After School Program Director, earlier this spring.
  • The program is now FULL, but you can sign up for the waitlist here

PTSA Welcome

The MLA PTSA is excited to welcome you into our community. Our organization supports our school by coordinating community building events, volunteer opportunities and fundraisers.


Each year MLA PTSA funds schoolwide programs and resources including visual arts, music, online program licenses, noontime staff, classroom supplies, field trips, library books, and helps make the after school program accessible for all students.


We hope to host an informal family information/welcome event in August where families will be able to connect and reconnect after the year of distance learning. Please take a couple minutes to complete our family engagement survey so that we can keep in contact with you about this and other opportunities throughout the year.
