Jaguar Tracks
January 13th
Dear JE community,
I hope you all had a wonderful week! We certainly did at JE. Our students engaged in many activities that supported learning about Martin Luther King Junior. From read alouds, reflection activities and arts and crafts that will be displayed during the town's MLK day event (details below). We are proud of our students for Practicing Compassion, Acting Responsibly, Working Towards Success and Showing Respect--all values that MLK embodied. You can find a book for students to read at bedtime below!
January School Store Dates: Please note that the school store has moved. Students can now enter the building for the school store in Door 5 (next door to the library).
- 1/20: Grade 4
- 1/27: Grade 5

Weather Flag Mornings:
On Weather Flag mornings (Raining, snowing or below 20 degrees), students can enter the building at 8:10.On any school day, while the Oak street door is unlocked, the building is not accessible to any family or child before 8:10 unless there is a scheduled meeting because there is no supervision available. On weather flag days (days when there is a weather flag posted), children can enter the building at 8:10.
The windows by the library and lower hallway should be avoided by all families in the morning. We understand and appreciate the desire to see your child one last time before they enter the building -- however this practice has become a distraction to our morning routine and has impacted our kindergarten drop off. Thank you for your understanding on this and please reach out if you would like to discuss further.
Absences & Tardies:
If your child is going to be absent or tardy for any reason, please make sure you notify the MAIN OFFICE by 8:30 a.m. You can call the absentee phone line at 781-942-9161 or email us at jeeabsences@reading.k12.ma.us. (also on our new website!) Please let us know the reason for your child’s absence/tardiness and expected date/time of return.
Please remember to send in a note from your doctor or dentist if your child is absent or tardy due to an appointment!!
We greatly appreciate your cooperation!!

Reading Public Schools is a METCO District
"Since its founding during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement, the METCO program has enrolled tens of thousands of Boston students of color in predominately white school districts, creating the opportunity for those districts to experience the advantages of learning and working in a racially and ethnically diverse setting."
Found Family Program
Please take a look at the attached document detailing our “Found Family” Program. With the collaboration of 8th grade students from Parker Middle School and all Elementary PTO’s we produced the name “Found Family,” and this document for our district Found Family program. What does Found Family mean? “A group of people who find themselves united in a family-bond based on shared experiences, mutual understanding, and interpersonal connection. Found Family is not biological but found when placed in a new place.”
