Maltby Messenger
September 26th Edition
~A message from the Principal~
October Arrives!
It is hard to believe October is almost here! September flew by and now we are moving into the crisp fall nights and unpredictable fall weather. Please remember to send your child with a jacket for those cold early mornings. If their name is written inside, there is a much higher chance it will be returned if left on the playground.
Our car and bus drop off and pick up is becoming smoother. We are a work in progress. A couple of things to note: If you are doing car pick up, please turn off your car as we are an Idle-free zone. The toxins from the exhaust come in through the ventilation. We would really appreciate your help with this!
Curriculum night is this coming Thursday, October 3, beginning at 6:00pm. The schedule is as follows: 6:00pm: K-2 parents come to the gym to learn about curriculum, school age students may play on the playground, 6:30pm-7:00pm all students and parents K-5 go to classrooms, and 7:00pm-7:30pm 3-5 parents come to the gym and school age students may go to the playground. There is child care available in room C-7 for toddlers. Come and meet the staff and tour your child’s classroom. Conference sign-ups will be in the library. Conferences will be held the week of October 21-25th. This time is an excellent opportunity to visit with your child’s teacher, hear about all the learning students are doing in the classroom as well as share about your child. Each teacher has a designated time for each student. Coming together for our students and setting goals for each child’s success is a wonderful opportunity. We hope to see you there!
We continue to focus on our social emotional learning. We are using Second Step, which is a social emotional curriculum. September has been about systems and routines. We are also continuing our efforts in the Good Behavior Game and Restorative Practices. All of these programs focus on positive interventions. We will also be partnering with Continua Consulting, which helps to focus on trauma informed practices.
Books, books and more books!!! Primary students might enjoy reading the book, “I Walk with Vanessa,” by Kerascoet. This is a picture book that tells the story about a simple act of kindness. Intermediate students might enjoy, “Granted,” by John David Anderson. This is a fantasy story about wishes and a relationship between two characters that is built on love and support. Many adventures keep the reader anxious to read the next chapter.
Have an amazing fall weekend!
Fondly,
Bonnie McKerney
