Letter From the Principal
Parents,
It is hard to believe that one-half of our school year is behind us. We are excited about all that we have accomplished at IKES, and we are equally excited about all of the things that are coming up the last half of the year. Next week we will be promoting “Kindness” in our building. Read more about the day-to-day events in the Counselor’s Corner in this newsletter. We will be honoring our 4th and 5th grade students on January 19 at our quarterly Honors Assembly. Students who made A’s and B’s, and those that had perfect attendance during our 2nd quarter will be recognized. The 4th grade assembly begins promptly at 8:15 a.m. followed by the 5th grade assembly at 9:00 p.m. Please park in the FRONT parking lot. Our Techno Wizard Club students will be performing on Saturday, January 21 at River Ridge High School. We look forward to hearing all of the positive results from that competition! Our 4th/5th spelling bee will be held on Wednesday, January 18 at 8:15 a.m. in the media center. Good luck to the homeroom reps. One of my favorite events will be January 27 – BINGO! Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and games begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Our first graders will be performing on February 7 at 6:30 p.m. We are looking forward to all of these events – never a dull moment at IKES.
I also want to thank you as part of our stakeholder group for the support you provide to not only your child, but to our teachers, support staff and administration. I know that you realize that it takes ALL of us to help our children learn and grow. Please continue to work with us to help each child become a successful, productive member of our community.

For the months of February and March we will continue to focus on career clusters in grades 1- 5 during scheduled guidance times. The link below provides information regarding the different career clusters covered in grades 1 -5: http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/CTAE/Pages/CTAE-Georgia-Career-Clusters.aspx
The focus for kindergarten guidance will be character education with an emphasis on kindness and friendship.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the MUST Ministries Toy Drive through our school program, IKES Believes in Helping Others. The needs of many Cherokee County families were met due to the generosity of our Indian Knoll families.
If you or anyone you know is in need of resources please feel free to contact either one of us at: colleen.delosh@cherokee.k12.ga.us or lori.waycaster@cherokee.k12.ga.us.
