Kindergarten Registration and Round-Up Event

Thursday, March 7th, 6:30-7:30pm

Hawthorne Gym

It's time to start planning for next year's Kindergarten class of students! Our Kindergarten Round Up and Visit will be combined into one family-friendly event this year, on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. in our Hawthorne Gym. Kindergarten students should plan on attending with their parents. The evening will follow this schedule:

6:15 p.m. - Doors open: please enter at door 1 or door 14.

6:30 p.m. - All families should go to the gym first for introductions and a brief presentation; incoming Kindergarten students will then visit the Kindergarten classrooms with the Kindergarten teachers and staff, while parents stay in the gym for further presentations and a tour of the school.

7:00 p.m. - Parents reunite with their children in the Kindergarten classrooms and time to drop off paperwork or ask our office staff about documentation and paperwork requirements for Kindergarten registration.

Registration packets are now available in our office for pick up; please contact our office NOW to be added to our planning list (630) 682-2065; it is strongly suggested you begin the paperwork now and turn it in before this event on March 7 to avoid the possible long lines.

Digital Citizenship and Social Media Safety

It's never too early to start teaching your child about internet and social media safety, and how to learn good "digital media" skills and becoming a "digital citizen". Being a good digital citizen is similar to simply being a good citizen in general: being kind, responsible, respectful and contributing to the world in order to make it a better place.

Valentine's Day Card Donations Needed

We are collecting donations of Valentine's Day cards for students in need; if you are able to donate, please bring donations to the Hawthorne Office. Simple cards from the Dollar Store, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or Target would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much for your donation; we would like to ensure all of our Hawthorne students can exchange valentines on February 14th!

Valentine's Day Parties on February 14th

All classrooms will have Valentine's Day parties planned by pre-arranged PTA room parents and volunteers during the afternoon of Thursday, February 14th from 2:15-3:15 p.m. Morning Kindergarten party will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. Students are allowed to exchange valentine cards, and please follow the classroom teachers' guidelines regarding card exchanging. Please do not send any candy or treats to school; snacks will be provided by the pre-arranged volunteers in accordance to our District 200 Wellness Policy for the classroom party on February 14th, and therefore will be the only food and treats allowed. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Plunge Into Fitness Challenge

Stay healthy and fit this winter by being active and keep moving! Each student should have received information on the Plunge Into Fitness Challenge, where students are challenged to participate in 30 minutes of exercise daily for the next 50 days! Any activity that increases heart rate will count, such as walking, biking, running, jumping rope or playing a sport. Keep track of your exercise on your fitness log, and be sure to turn in your log by April 8th. All students who turn in their log will receive their choice of a free ticket or discount to Raging Waves Water Park!

The PTA Executive Committee Needs You

Looking to get more involved in our school? The PTA is a great place to make a difference in the school experience for your children, their classmates, our teachers, and our support staff. Come join us! The PTA is 100% volunteer-powered and we couldn't provide programs, clubs, and events without the support of our parents and grandparents. There are many ways to help just a little or a whole lot - whatever works for you. Current open Executive Committee positions for 2019-20 include President or Co-President, Vice President, and Vice President of Fundraising. There are also committee chair positions available as well. If you're interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Angie Wilson, angiewilson1@gmail.com. Thanks!
