Week 6 Term 2

Principal Message

Dear Parents,

Now that we are heading into Stage 3 restriction surrounding COVID-19, I feel that we can take time to reflect on our mindset throughout these uncertain times. Times have changed, possibly forever. Which mindset we choose is up to us. If we take some time to reflect on our mindset and see challenges as opportunities we can develop a growth mindset.

Research suggests that a growth mindset is essential for learning and development. A fixed mindset undermines attempts to thrive by creating a psychological barrier to learning. Overcoming this barrier is critical to developing people's capacity to change and have the self efficacy to persist through a challenging transition.

Help your child to develop a growth mindset by:

  • Acknowledging and embracing imperfections
  • View challenges as opportunities
  • Value the process over the end result
  • Celebrate growth with others
  • Reward actions- not traits
  • Use the word "yet"- as in "you have not mastered it yet"
  • Make a new goal for every accomplished goal
  • Take risks
  • Be realistic
  • Take ownership over your attitude
  • Have a sense of humour

People with a growth mindset are not discouraged by failure, but they don't actually see themselves as failing in those situations- they see themselves as learning! We can all model a growth mindset to our children and encourage them to take risks and embrace challenges in order to become life long learners.

High School Cooking

The high schoolers had their first cooking lesson last week and made Fish and Chips with Rob Fillmore. This week they made Chicken Caesar Salad. We appreciate Rob giving up his own time to share his wonderful skill set with our very enthusiastic students.

Year 1/2 Position

In the year 1/2 class at Leinster we were expecting Cheryl Enders to return however she is not well enough at this stage to resume her position. We are excited to announce that Michelle Wraith will continue with us for the remainder of the year.

Sorry Day

All of our classes at Leinster Community School commemorated Sorry Day with a variety of activities. Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 made a beautiful display using their hand prints.

Big picture

We would like to acknowledge Goldfields for their generosity. Goldfields have kindly donated a significant grant to the school to assist us in purchasing a selection of personal devices including, Chrome books and iPads. This donation will contribute significantly to the ratio of devices that we have per class.

Thank you also to Rachel Fawcett who applied for a grant through Sporting Schools. We now have a set of golf clubs in the school!

Running Club

Running club has been a successful initiative in the school with all of the children participating improving their fitness each week. As of next week (10 June) all parents are welcome to come and participate also. We hope to see you there!

Cubby Houses in Kindergarten

We have been improving the Kindergarten playground. Cubby houses have been added to Kindergarten area and we are getting a quote on a bike path. Old equipment has been removed by BHP for safety reasons and the students are loving the new space.

Sport with Mick

A BIG thank you to Michael Plowman for his hard work and flexibility in setting up afternoon sport with our teachers and students. The first week went really well!

This term teachers will provide grades in only English and maths due to COVID-19 interruptions. Other areas will be marked as not assessed, however there will be a comment outlining what has been taught in each learning area.

Reports will be sent home electronically from this semester onwards. The school will not be providing hard copies. A note was sent home to all families to update email addresses for this process to run as smoothly as possible. If you have not returned the note a reminder will be sent home. Should you have any ongoing concerns regarding correct email or contact details please email Colleen.

Kindergarten 2021

Will your child be enrolling for Kindergarten in 2021?

You need to apply to enrol your children in school for 2021 if they are:

  • starting Kindergarten – 4 years old by 30 June 2021

Please see the front office for an enrolment pack! We have started planning our classes for 2021.

SIDE 2021

Will your child be in SIDE in 2021? Please let Colleen know as she is creating a list of students for 2021. We are investigating an opportunity for a Face to Face teacher moving forward into next semester.

Lunch order days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Students need to hand their order to Mrs Sokra'a in the front office or into the lunch order bag when it goes around at 9:30am. If your child misses out on submitting a lunch order in time the school will offer them a sandwich. Our lunches are provided off site through the tavern and it is essential that these are received on time to benefit all families in the community.

Bike Helmets and Road Safety

Please remind your child to wear a bike helmet. The majority of the students are good at remembering but we are still needing to remind some students.

COVID-19 Update

On Saturday 6 June 2020 Phase 3 restrictions for COVID-19 will be in place.

In the context of our school this will mean that parents will be able to come onsite. Mrs Onwuegbule and Mrs Barbosa will remain present at before and after school drop off to assist families that wish to kiss and drop.

It is wonderful to see the thriving independence and resilience in all students. Please continue to encourage your child to come into school as independently as possible. If you would like to come into the classroom on a regular occasion please add your name to the parent help rosters in Kindergarten and Pre Primary.

School Photos

School Photos will commence in 21 July 2020. All parents will receive a form regarding this and how to order.
