Greetings Shaw Community,


We have been getting some fun requests from the children for social time with one another. As a result, we have implemented some opportunities at the school level as well as the classroom level. Ms. Hildwein will share our lunch bunch schedule later in this edition of SSS. A special thanks to Ms. Hildwein and Ms. Patti for bringing this to life. We know how healthy and necessary the time with peers is for our elementary and middle school children. Your teachers will be sharing their special classroom opportunities this week. We also hope to have a few student planned events too, stay tuned!


Now, we would like to know if you too are ready for some virtual online fun with our community? Perhaps an evening of Zoom Virtual Bingo—happens to be one of my favorites! We would love your ideas! Please send them to me at susan.engdall@phxschools.org

Message From Laura Hildwein

Greetings!!


As the pandemic has dragged on we have found that the students are feeling isolated. Shaw is working on some solutions to help students connect with peers more often.


The first thing that we will have in place will begin the week of November 16.

Wednesday’s through Friday’s, from 12 pm-1 pm there will be a lunch bunch group. This will be a time for the kids to talk amongst themselves with an adult in the background. They can join for any amount of time in that 12 pm-1 pm time period.


  • Wednesday’s Ms. Laura will be hosting the lunch bunch for the Upper Elementary students.
  • Thursday’s lunch bunch will be hosted by Ms. Patti for the Lower Elementary students.
  • Friday’s Ms. Laura will host the Middle School students.


There will be no lunch bunch for primary students at this time as they get a significant amount of socialization in their classroom.


Lunch Bunch is optional and it is really just a space where kids can talk to each other about whatever is on their minds. We hope to continue this format for as long as school remains online.

Tax Credit

Shaw is Seeking Your Tax Credit!


As a public school, Shaw Montessori counts on families and friends to donate tax credits to ensure enriching trips and outdoor learning spaces, and for the greatest needs for all our children. Even though we are distance learning right now, your tax credit donation is no less important than a typical school year as we are restoring our campus for students return. Tax deductible, and highly useful- please consider donating to us as we could not provide without all of you!


When donating you can you can designate your tax credit. Please designate “Greatest Need” as that is the most versatile and we can utilize it best. Please consider donating today!

Donations may be made in any amount up to $400.00 if you are married filing jointly or up to $200.00 if you are filing single head of household. You may receive a dollar for dollar credit for the donation (check with your tax professional). Tax Credit can be paid by cash, check or online. Attendance Announcement

Starting Tuesday, November 3rd, our district attendance auto-dialer will begin making calls again to families with students marked absent.


In the past, this phone call went out at 9:30am for the current day. Going forward, this phone call will come the day AFTER the student was marked absent. Please try to remember to contact the office ahead of time in the event your student will be unable to attend any part of the school day. If your child CAN attend for a portion of the day, or login and complete even just a few minutes of work in IXL, they will not be marked absent on their permanent attendance record.


The easiest ways to contact the office for your student’s attendance concerns would be to phone us at 602-257-3914 OR you can email Christina.Girard@phxschools.org or Teresa.Carreon@phxschools.org. We ask that you provide a REASON for the missed school day. We must code absences by type for the state department of education.


A reminder as we continue distance learning with asynchronous learning Mondays; your child is expected to participate by uploading work in their google classroom or to work in IXL on Mondays to log their participation. This allows us to verify that they receive attendance credit for the day. Attendance is closely tied to school funding, and more importantly the success of your child. Thank you for being a partner in your child’s education!

Enrollment Paperwork

We still have 40 students without their required 20/21 enrollment paperwork. PLEASE turn in your students enrollment packets immediately. Paperwork can be dropped into our secured drop box, to the right of the office door M-F 6:30am-5:30pm. If you have lost your enrollment packet, we can print you another one by calling 602-257-3914.

Important Grab & Go Meal Updates

Meal pick-up holiday schedule


There will be no meal distribution the week of Thanksgiving. Instead, the distribution of meals

will take place on November 18th and includes 2 weeks of meals.

At Home Meal Delivery

Phoenix Elementary District is now offering at-home meal deliveries for students living within the district boundaries. To receive the at-home meal delivery service, parents simply complete a one-time Request for At-Home Delivery, and a week’s worth of meals will be delivered directly to your home, each Tuesday between 9 a.m. – 12 noon. Deliveries will be made by a Phoenix Elementary staff member driving a district school bus or district vehicle. Parents may register for the program beginning on Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m., and requests must be made one week in advance of the delivery date. Remember, you only need to complete the request form one time, and you will receive meals delivered to your home every Tuesday. To discontinue the meal delivery service, simply complete the Request to Discontinue At-Home Meal Delivery Opt-Out form.
