Middle Schools Start Hybrid In-Person Next Week
Middle schools are transitioning to Hybrid in-person next week:
Tuesday, March 16: 6th graders in-person begins
Thursday, March 18: 7th graders in-person begins
Friday, March 19: 8th graders in-person begins
Bus schedules will be posted by Monday, Mar 15. Routes are developed for registered riders. If you still need to register your student for the middle school bus, please call the transportation office at 503-387-5078 and have your student’s ID# available, which can be found on ParentVUE.
LO Online students and staff will continue online. LOSD is committed to supporting LO Online through the school year.
Bus Routes Adjusted for Registrations
It typically takes a few weeks for bus routes and stops to settle into a routine, and this year is no different. As Hybrid in-person gets underway and more and more registrations come in, routes are being adjusted to make room for all registered riders. The transportation team is working diligently to process registrations and update routes, which are posted under transportation on the district website and shared with schools and families, and your patience is appreciated.
Adding to the complexity of routes is a national and local shortage of school bus drivers. If you or someone you know is interested in driving a school bus, Click here to start your application process.
Recommended Quarantining After Travel
With many in our community transitioning to in-person learning and Spring Break coming up at the end of March, it’s a good time to clarify the statewide guidance for travel. It’s recommended that people who are not vaccinated and who travel outside of the state of Oregon consider quarantining upon returning home.
LOSD is asking people to consider quarantining. If students choose to quarantine, instructional materials will be provided while out of school.
Per the Oregon Statewide Guidance for Travel, people are recommended to practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival in the state and limit their interactions to their immediate household. People may consider ending quarantine if they have had no symptoms: after 10 days with no testing or after 7 days with an antigen or PCR test.
High Schools Expanding In-person Opportunities
Lake Oswego and Lakeridge High Schools will transition to Hybrid in-person at the start of 4th quarter. Until then, each high school is offering expanded in-person opportunities in March and early April, including:
Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) expanded to half day and more students
Ninth graders and new students in-person student orientations
Fine Arts departments, both visual and performing, beginning to invite students for various in-person learning opportunities
Some student clubs will begin meeting at the schools
Some teachers choosing to allow students to zoom from home while some come in person
In-person literature discussions and study sessions
Choir rehearsals
Leadership activities
Class presentations
Intervention opportunities
Contact the principal if your high school student is interested in participating in an in-person activity.
Days Added to 2020-21 School Calendar
At Monday night’s meeting the School Board approved an updated district calendar for the remainder of the 2020-21 School Year.
Changes were approved based on the loss of school days due to power outages, using the weather makeup days reserved at the end of the school year. Additionally, for our middle schools, the end of 3rd quarter has been pushed out a week. For our high schools, the 3rd quarter end date remains the same so as not to delay the return to Hybrid in-person at the start of 4th quarter.
Following is how these changes are reflected in the update school calendar:
April 9 -- Removed MS Grade Prep Day
April 16 -- Added as MS Grade Prep Day -- No school for middle school students
April 22 & 23 -- Removed Middle School conferences (now regular school days)
June 11 -- Now a regular school day
June 14, 15, 16 & 17 -- Removed the shading for weather makeup days
June 16 -- Marked as Last Day of Classes (a multi-synchronous Wednesday)
June 17 -- Now the Teacher Work Day
Note: High school graduation dates remain the same: Lakeridge is Thursday, Jun. 3 and Lake Oswego is Friday, Jun. 4.
Please click here for the updated calendar posted on the district website.
