New STEM Opportunities with Scholastic!

The CMSD Fab Lab is looking for interested K-12 Teachers to participate in our new STEM Scholastic programs! Each program includes different Scholastic materials that will pair with STEM extension activities for you to do with your students. Please read through the program options below.

If you would like to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, please respond to Sarah Wallace with your name, school, grades/subject taught and which program interests you most.

STEAM and SEL in Fiction (K-5)

Scholastic has partnered with a unique group of STEAM mentors to curate a collection of fictional stories that shatter misconceptions about girls and women as leaders in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. While these stories focus on female characters, they are appropriate and exciting for readers of any gender. These texts provide students and educators with an opportunity to celebrate inspiring stories of critical thinking and innovation.

Aligned to the CASEL framework, the books and teaching materials build a strong classroom community that enables deep discussions about social justice, inclusivity, and empathy for others.

Each grade level kit from Scholastic includes the materials below. The CMSD Fab Lab will also work with any participating teacher to create a hands-on STEAM learning experience for their students to accompany the texts.

  • 50 books (25 titles including 5 anchor texts, 2 copies each)
  • Teaching Cards (1 per anchor text)
  • Teacher's Guide
  • Access to Digital Resources Website
  • Attractive storage bins
  • Labeling stickers

Middle School Mentors Reading Program with STEM Stories (6-8)

Using My Books Everyday STEM packs, your Middle School students can pair with younger students in grades PreK - 3 and Read aloud to them. This will build a community within your school and allow students to enjoy and become more comfortable reading.

Participating Middle School teachers will receive an Every Day Book Box for which ever grade they are choosing to partner with. Everyday Book Box features five 50-book collections of leveled fiction and nonfiction titles. Each box includes 50 individual titles and 1 CD filed with Black Line masters for in-class activities. With no title overlap between collections these sets are ideal for English language learners or for expanding your classroom library!

The CMSD Fab Lab will also work with the teachers to facilitate a hands-on STEAM learning experience with the Middle School and Elementary students to complete together.
