Monk Fryston Weekly News 28.4.23

The school target for next week is;

remember to use royally good manners.

SATS Week Starts 8th May.

Don’t forget that KS2 test week starts on 8th May. It is really important that all children are in school every day that week.

5-a-side Football Tournament

Some of our Year 5 boys are organising a 5-a-side football tournament for children in KS2 during lunchtimes in the week of 15th May. Children who are taking part will not need any special kit, and the tournament should not impact upon any learning or lesson time.

Courses for Parents & Grandparents

There are useful courses for parents and grandparents at the Solihull Parenting Programme. This is online and free of charge for our families: www.inourplace.co.uk and add the access code NYFAMILIES.

Water Saving Tip From Our Eco Warriors.

A water-saving tip from our Eco Warriors is to turn off the tap. Running taps waste as much as 6 litres of water a minute. So remember to turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth, or try filling a bowl of water when rinsing vegetables or fruit to keep your veg clean and your water usage low!

Monitor Children's Online Use.

Please remember to regularly monitor children’s online use. You can find e-safety tips and guidance on our school website.

PTA 100 Club

Don’t forget that the PTA are running a 100 Club with monthly prizes. Entry into the April draw has now closed but numbers from May onwards can still be purchased on ParentPay. The June draw will be a bonus month with higher prizes.

Maths Information Evening for Parent - Thursday 4th May, 6-7pm

Thank you for your feedback about Maths at Monk Fryston and Saxton CE Schools. We had lots of interest in the idea of a maths information session for parents/carers. The general consensus was that an evening would be preferable so we have organised for the session to take place on:

Thursday 4th May, 6-7pm at MF School

The session will be informal and will include some information about the strategies we use to teach maths to your children (across all age groups); some top tips for supporting maths learning at home; and the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about our maths learning.

The session is intended for any adults supporting children at home (which might include grandparents etc.).

If you intend to come along, please book your space(s) using the Google form below:

We look forward to seeing you there!

Cricket Coaching

Are you looking for a super friendly, outdoor activity for your child? Why not come and have a go at cricket at Hillam & Monk Fryston Cricket Club, where our Under 9 and Under 11 softball teams would love to see more girls and boys from Monk Fryston. You'll find a lovely atmosphere and might discover a hidden talent in batting, bowling or fielding. Come along and see what you think, on Fridays at 6.30pm at Stocking Lane (LS25 5HP, in front of the football ground) - no kit needed, we have everything you need. Just turn up! Or contact juniorcrickethmfcc@gmail.com.

Street Party at the Community Centre.

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.

Apply for free school meals

You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.

Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
