Yearbook Picture HELP
PLEASE SEND US YOUR PHOTOS
The yearbook staff is looking for HIGH QUALITY, non-blurry candid photos. While we love to see your beautiful, posed faces, we much prefer pictures of you doing something, rather than you looking and smiling directly at the camera.
This yearbook is unique in that it will be created by the whole school. Thank you in advance for being a part of this historic year. Don’t forget to reserve your copy at www.jostensyearbooks.com!
Sincerely,
The Gallantry Yearbook Staff

NIKOLAUSTAG (St Nicholas Day)
The holiday season is officially upon us and it’s time to explore some German holiday traditions. “Nikolaustag” or St. Nicholas Day falls on Sunday December 6th this year. St. Nicholas was the bishop of Myra in Asia Minor who died on December 6, 343. “Nikolaustag” is the favorite holiday of children in Germany and Austria. In the evening of December 5th St. Nicholas would visit homes and ask if the children were behaving. Nikolaus would then check his book to see if the children were good. The children would prepare for Nikolaus by cleaning their rooms, toys, and clothes. Nikolaus would test them by having them sing a song or recite poems. The children would be rewarded with treats. Nikolaus was accompanied by Knecht Ruprecht, a sinister figure carrying a sack and a switch. Children who were naughty would be given the switch or carried away in the sack (as legend goes). Knecht Ruprecht is also known as “Black Peter” or “Krampus (in Austria and Bavaria).” The most famous tradition of St. Nicholas Day is that little kids put their polished shoes or socks outside the door or window, and at night Nikolaus fills them with little gifts. Add a little “German” to your family traditions this year and celebrate “Nikolaustag”. My family did. Bis nächste Woche! Alles gute beim Nikolaustagfeiren!
