Cedar Hill Football To Open 2023 Season vs. Rockwall on Saturday

The Cedar Hill High School Football Team will open the 2023 Season at 1 p.m. Saturday vs. defending 10-6A Champion, Rockwall, in the Jerry Jones Classic at The Star in Frisco.

Here's the season preview:

"We had a decent scrimmage against South Oak Cliff and Flower Mound," Cedar Hill first-year head coach Nick Ward said. 'We'll try to build on that. Our players are playing with confidence, and you can tell how focused they are."

Coach Ward's Debut

Cedar Hill first-year head football coach Nick Ward will make his head coaching debut on Saturday vs. Rockwall. Ward, a former University of Miami football player and track & field athlete, was on the staff of the 2020 Cedar Hill staff that reached the UIL Class 6A-II State Championship Game. He was an assistant coach for a 12-1 Midlothian team last season. Ward is the Longhorns' third head coach since 2003.

"We have a great set of coaches and kids," Ward said. "I believe in them."

Cedar Hill in Season Openers

The Longhorns are 11-8 in season openers since 2004. They're looking to win their first season opener since a 28-21 victory at Arlington in 2020.

Meet The Yellowjackets

Rockwall returns nine starters from a team that finished 10-2 last season. The Yellowjackets won the 10-6A District Championship, and their only losses came against Prosper (a state semifinalist) and Waxahachie.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football picked Rockwall to repeat as 10-6A Champions. Quarterback Mason Marshall returns, along with wide receivers Kai Helton, Camron Marsh and Jaiden Petrino.

Rockwall defeated the Longhorns, 34-12, to open the 2022 Season at the Jerry Jones Classic in Frisco.

Cedar Hill Volleyball Wins San Angelo Silver Bracket

The Cedar Hill High School Volleyball Team won five of six matches at the Nita Vannoy Tournament in San Angelo to take the Silver Bracket Championship.

The Lady Longhorns (12-3) defeated five teams from West Texas, including El Paso Jefferson and El Paso Pebble Hills in the Silver Bracket on Saturday.

Cedar Hill will visit Argyle Liberty Christian (15-1) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and compete in their final regular season tournament of 2023, in Forney, on Saturday and Sunday.

Turner Breaks Cedar Hill Boys Cross Country Record

Cedar Hill High senior Bruce Turner broke the Longhorns' Boys Cross Country Record with a time of 16:55.44 at the Kennedale Wildcat Run on Friday in Arlington. The record was previously held by Dorian Smith, who ran a 16:56.68 in 2019.

Thirteen Longhorns posted personal records at the season-opening meet. The team will compete at the Hillsboro Invitational on Friday.

Gipson Has Three Tackles in Preseason Game

Chicago Bears defensive end Trevis Gipson, a 2015 Cedar Hill High School Graduate, registered three tackles in a 24-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Gipson faced a fellow Texan in the game, Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

The Bears will wrap up the preseason schedule by hosting the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.
