Cedar Grove Friday Flash
January 5, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
We were so excited to welcome the children back to school after what we hope was a fun, restful, and enjoyable winter break. We are moving into the new year with a lot of upcoming events, so please review the calendar dates below so you don't miss anything! As a reminder, our Winter Concert will be on January 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Clarksburg High School. Students who are performing are asked to wear concert attire (white on top and black on the bottom) and to arrive at the high school by 6:00 for warm-up and rehearsal.
We are also looking forward to our Read-a-Thon, which will begin January 16. We hope you will save the date for our Pajama Story Time, which will occur on January 25 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. See additional details in both the PTA section and Mrs. Hirschhorn's media section below.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Wynne and Mrs. German

Chromebooks for Home Use
Cedar Grove is using a cart model for Chromebooks this year which means Chromebooks stay in the classroom and do not go home. For those of you who would like an MCPS home use device, please complete the Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families to request a home use Chromebook. The purpose is to give Cedar Grove students the access they need for instruction if they do not have a personal or home device. Staff at central office will monitor the requests through the form submissions, will prepare a device, assign it to your student, and will deliver it to Cedar Grove. We will distribute it to the student. As you can imagine, the process takes some time, which is why we are asking you to put in your request so that you have the device when your student needs it. The home use device is to be kept at home for the academic year. Requesting the device implies consent of use in accordance with MCPS policy (IGT-RA) and acknowledgement that the Chromebook, software, and issued peripherals are owned by MCPS.
Damascus High School Renovation Project Meeting
If you were unable to attend the December 11th Community Design Worksession, the next one will be held on January 10th at 6:30 pm in the DHS cafeteria. Students who attend will earn Student Service Learning hours.
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Happy New Year! As mentioned before winter break, we have so many wonderful activities planned for January! Please bookmark the January Media Monthly so you get all the updates every Friday! Again, please save the date for our Readathon Read Aloud Night! This event is a Cedar Grove tradition that our families love and we're so happy to bring it back! In fact, I'm partnering with our PTA to bring the best ever readathon to our students and families. Our Read-a-thon starts Tuesday January 16, 2024. Next week, we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress. We will have three "check ins" to see how our readers are doing and also to get data to put on our bulletin board! Please activate your reader’s account today and follow the simple instructions. We're also honoring Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday by creating another interactive bulletin board. Please ask your students to think about a dream they have, and then record that dream on a hand cut-out and drop that off in the media center. I'll take pictures as our bulletin board's heart grows!
Art, Music, and PE Newsletter
