TCS Talks: The TCS Graduate
The Right People: YOU!
Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria can often be heard saying "We absolutely have the right people in place to do the work." It's time to hear from them! Six TCS employees will take center stage and share their unique perspectives on preparing the "TCS Graduate." Learn why the system is committed to building the next generation of communicators, leaders, innovators, global citizens who are technologically advanced and work ready! Plus, the learn more about the system's commitment to keep employees and students safe with guest speaker Chris Dorn keynote speaker.
Communicators
Central Elementary's Katherine Baxter says communication is much more than writing and speaking correctly, it is the ability to interact with others in a variety of settings. As educators we must prepare them to be able to communicate through multiple modalities and ensure they are able to navigate seamlessly through different environments.
Technologically Advanced
We’re told that the first humans to set foot on another planet have already been born. What if some of those explorers are walking into our classrooms in a few days? Are we igniting their curiosity? Laren Hammonds, of Northridge Middle, asks are we supporting them as they ask weird and wonderful questions?
Innovators
According to Gifted Specialist Nellie Christian, we must present a world of possibilities to everyone we meet. We must present a world open to ideas, rich with culture, and waiting to be changed. We must realize that we are the world changers. Regardless of where we come from, what we look like, who we are related to, or how we got to this place, we are more.
Leaders
Everyday our kids are watching us and they are imitating us, says Bus Driver Mark Potter. What we teach them by example will make an indelible impact on their future. The example that we set impacts our students either positively or negatively. Integrity, honesty and kindness go a long way in developing leadership skills in the lives of our students.
Work Ready
In education, we're trained to get kids to college, but our goal is college and career ready says Central High Principal Dr. Clarence Sutton, Jr. See how one principal's dream just wasn't big enough for a partnership that would develop into a first-of-its-kind program nationwide.
Global Citizens
Paul W. Bryant JROTC Instructor Maj. J.D. York believes that technology has made us all “global citizens”, and that we must train our students to compete effectively in this environment.
