Market Broilers
Order Chicks by MAY 1, 2019
We will be ordering our 4-H market broilers through Seifer Farms in Sutherland. If you are interested in entering a pen of Market Broilers at the 2019 County Fair you must order your chicks through the Extension Office no later than MAY 1, 2019.
Each 4-H Exhibitor in Lincoln and Logan counties is limited to 1 entry of three birds. 4-H Exhibitors in McPherson County is limited to 2 entries of two birds each. Each broiler must weigh a minimum of 4 pounds each at fair time. The birds shown in a pen should be as uniform as possible. Every bird in the pen should be as near a carbon copy of the pen mates in sex, size, conformation, fleshing, finish and even skin color. Each exhibitor in the broiler pen class is eligible to consign their birds as a pen at the 4-H Livestock sale.
ALL exhibitors WILL NOT BE limited to a minimum number of chicks though keep in mind the number that you need in order to get a uniform pen of 3 (or 2) broilers for county fair. All orders must be paid for at the time the order is placed.
The chicks will be delivered to Seifer Farms in Sutherland and must be picked up at their farm on May 31st for Lincoln and Logan counties, June 15th for McPherson County. This will allow each 4-H’er to be able to select their chicks from the large number of chicks that Seifer Farms will be getting that week in May. (Seifer Farms is located at 1442 South Seifer Road, Sutherland – you travel south of Sutherland, turn right at the first dirt road that is right by the Cemetery, you will travel several miles west until you reach the overpass then turn south and go 1 ½ miles. Seifer Farms sites is on the west of the road and is the only farm you will pass.)
Please give us a call if you have questions or concerns. Good luck with the Market Broiler Project this year.

Southwest Nebraska Helping 4-H’ers in Flood Recovery
Nebraska Extension and 4-H in Southwest Nebraska is reaching out to our communities to participate in the 4-H’ers Helping 4-H’ers program. The bomb cyclone that created devastating flood and blizzard conditions across much of Nebraska is a month behind us however, the reality of it continues for many families as they work to rebuild what they lost. These events has impacted the lives of many 4-H’ers and we are asking residents and businesses from Arthur, Chase, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Hayes, Hitchcock, Lincoln, Keith, Perkins and Red Willow counties to help us reach the goal of helping 100 4-H’ers with disaster relief. When a 4-H member is in need, we want them to know that Southwest Nebraska cares.
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation is the sponsor of the 4-H’ers Helping 4-H’ers program. It is devoted to helping 4-H members and their families in times of need through generous donations. When disaster strikes, no matter how large or small, 4-H’ers Helping 4-H’ers will be there to help! The Foundation seeks contributions year round to be used to help 4-H’ers and families for major disasters such as flood, tornado, blizzard, loss of home due to fire, or serious illness.
This program is being used by 4-H’ers and families whose life has been impacted by the recent floods and blizzards in Nebraska. A committee meets weekly to award funds to those that have applied to this program and qualify.
4-H’ers Helping 4-H’ers funds are available to any Nebraska 4-H family, who has been impacted by a disaster and has been recommended for support by a 4-H parent or guardian, 4-H volunteer, or 4-H alumni. Grants are limited to $100 for an individual and $500 for a family. There is no deadline to apply to at ne4hfoundation.org/
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to your local Nebraska Extension Office or given directly through the Nebraska 4-H Foundation at ne4hfoundation.org 100% of donations will go help 4H’ers and 4-H families.
Contact your local Nebraska Extension office if you have questions.
