Academy of the Arts at Bransom
January 22-26, 2018 (School Days 91-95)
A Note From Your Principal
Academy of the Arts Families,
It is great to begin another week at the Academy of the Arts at Bransom. Last week was a pretty crazy with a holiday, extreme weather, schedule changes, and M.A.P. assessments beginning. This week looks like a great week for more learning and plenty of growth assessment.
This week, I hope that you will take any opportunity you have to share your appreciation with our BISD School Board Members. January is Board Appreciation Month. The artwork of several of our students will represent our campus in our efforts to show our appreciation for the Board's hard work at Monday night's School Board meeting. Check out the BISD Facebook page this week for pics.
Also this week, more classes will continue the M.A.P. assessments. Remember to encourage your child to do their very best everyday on everything they do. Whether a campus-wide assessment is being administered or your child is showing what they know in class discussions or on daily work, teachers need to know what they really know so that they can assist in areas of need.
This week we will also have an opportunity for teachers, parents, and business folks to meet together as the Academy of the Arts C.E.I.C. This group provides support, guidance, and insight for the school administration. If you have an interest in learning more about this committee, please feel free to contact me this week.
In closing, I want to let you know that we have extended the collection of donations for the fire fighters and victims of the California wildfires and now landslides. I know we have advertised the collection for over a month, but we have not collected adequate supplies for those in need. Please consider sending your family's donations this week. Image, if every child sent just one item, we would have a donation of 565 items. That should be our minimum. Please do what you can do ASAP. Thanks again for all you do and will do.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you this week because you matter.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Burchfield
SCHEDULE CHANGE BEGINNING THIS WEEK
I have attached the lunch schedule once again for your reference. However, we are still working to make adjustments on the 3rd grade lunch/recess times to move them back just a bit. We love for parents and families to join their students at lunch so please make note and share the information with family members who need to know. (Third grade parents, please call before joining us for lunch just to make sure. Thanks!)
Once again thanks for your flexibility during this transition. Teachers will be sharing their new schedules with families asap.
Parent Tip of the Week from Math Interventionist, Mrs. Blair
Math consists of many facts and figures to memorize and apply to math problems. At an early age children learn that math is something that requires work. However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be fun! Instill the idea that math can be pleasurable by playing games with your children. One game worth considering is Chutes and Ladders. A 2009 study conducted by Carnegie Mellon and the University of Maryland found that preschoolers who played the game improved math skills compared to those who did not play the game.
