India Graphs

Number of Wars / Major Conflicts Fought in Since 1947
As seen in the graph, India has not been involved in many wars since they became independent from Britain in 1947. In fact, India has only been involved in 12 wars since their independence, which is very low compared to the 35 wars that the United States has been involved in. This stat shows India's relative political strength but also its role as a policeman of the world, as demonstrated by the United States and Britain (20 wars), who are typically considered policing countries.
Military Expenditure in % of GDP
India puts a good deal of importance on military expenditure. While the United States is the clear leader not only within these 4 countries but also in the whole world, India is not too far behind. In fact, India's military expenditure makes up 2.5% of their GDP, which is the same amount as their former colonizer in Britain.
GDP Per Capita in USD
As of 2012, India is far behind China, Britain, and the United States in GDP per capita, in USD. In India, the GDP per capita is only $1,498.24, which is significantly lower than Britain ($38,514.46) and the United States ($49,965.27). The fact that India's GDP per capita is far behind that of other countries reflects how Indian people are not making as much as people in different countries. Despite the increase of India's GDP per capita over the last few decades, the number is still far behind countries even like China, showing that India has a long way to go in terms of having a similar GDP per capita as the United States and Britain.
Unemployment Rate as of 2013
As demonstrated by the graph, India has a very high unemployment rate, which is right around 8.5%. Their unemployment rate is too far above that of the United States, which is around 6.7%. Britain, India's former colonizer, as well as China both have significantly lower unemployment rates. This shows that in India, employment is hard to get, and not all jobs pay enough, which is demonstrated in the country's low GDP per capita.
Religion in India by %
In India, the overwhelming majority of people practice Hinduism; 80.5% to be exact. Other than Hinduism, the only other religion that more than 2.5% of people practice is Islam, which is practiced by 13.4%. Christianity is surprisingly low, at only 2.3%, showing that it is not nearly as popular as it is in Britain or the United States.
Life Expectancy
Compared to China, the United Stated, and Britain, India has the lowest life expectancy rate. In India, the overall life expectancy is 70 years, where a male can expect to live 67 years and a female 73 years. In all countries, the male life expectancy is lower than the female life expectancy. India's life expectancy can be due to inferior medical facilities and treatment plans for people who are poorer. However, India's life expectancy has been on the rise over the last decade, suggesting an increase in general healthcare.
