Week 5 is NAIDOC Week!
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists.
Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country, enabled them to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels.
At Maryland Public School, we are acknowledging the theme Always Was, Always Will Be' and the spiritual and cultural connection to our country through a variety of activities, (including a special assembly tomorrow afternoon) across the course of the week.
Thanks to our dedicated team of teachers who have planned and prepared the activities to celebrate NAIDOC this week; Miss Brown, Mr Wells, Mrs Dalais, Mrs Toll and Miss Ward.

Safety After School
We do not have staff on duty for supervision off site and are also mindful there have been a number of social incidents involving some of our students recently.
We thank you for having the conversation with your children and supporting us with this to ensure the safety of everyone.
Have a safe and happy week everyone,
Mrs Van Egmond

Student Wellbeing Week
The mental health and wellbeing of our students, staff and families is of great importance at Maryland Public School. During week 6 (16-20 November), we will be celebrating Student Wellbeing Week at school by participating in a range of activities that focus on building upon a students’ physical, spiritual, cognitive, social, and emotional wellbeing. This term our Student Wellbeing Week coincides with National Bullying Prevention Week. On Wednesday 18 November, Maryland Public School will be participating in 'SuperHero Wednesday' - where students and staff are invited to wear their favourite Superhero outfit or symbol to highlight that we are all United Against Bullying. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation that will be directly donated to 'Bully Zero organisation' to assist in educating students on bullying prevention.
